Canyon is an unincorporated community in Lubbock County, Texas, United States.[1] According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 40 in 2000. It is located within the Lubbock metropolitan area.

History
editCanyon served as a meeting place for a Church of Christ congregation in the 1890s. It also went by the name Wheelock. It remained a small farming community with no businesses in the mid-1980s. Its population was 40 from 1990 through 2000.[2]
Geography
editCanyon is located at the intersection of Farm to Market Roads 1729 and 40, 6 mi (9.7 km) east of Lubbock in east-central Lubbock County.[2]
Education
editCanyon served as the location of an 1890s school. The community was also known as Canyon School at different points in time. In the 1920s, Canyon became a county rural school district. However, in 1935, it was combined with the McClung and Acuff districts, which were comparable, to establish the Roosevelt Independent School District.[2]
