History

edit

In order to provide up-to-date education to the children of the army personnel working inside the cantonment, Bogura Cantonment Public School and College was established in 1979 at Bogura Cantonment of Bogura district. The then President of Bangladesh, Ziaur Rahman, laid the foundation stone of the institution. The institution officially started it's journey on November 22, 1979. [7]

The first Chief Patron and Chairman of the institution was Major General Amzad Ahmed Chowdhury, psc, who played an important role during the primary period of the institution. The first Principal (acting) of the institution was Mr Shivendranath Bhoumik. After Mr Bhoumik, Md Abdul Hannan (Former Professor of Jhenaidah Cadet College) was officially appointed as Principal in 1980.

In it’s first years, the institution had provided education upto 8th class only. Later it gained the recognition of Rajshahi Education Board in 1981 and was upgraded to 10th class. The institution first took part in the Secondary School Certificate Examination under Rajshahi Education Board in 1983.

The college branch of the institution was opened in 1984 and it first took part in the Higher Secondary Certificate Examination in 1986. In the same year, the then President of Bangladesh, Hussain Muhammad Ershad, came to visit the institution and gave a huge amount of donation for it’s infrastructural development.

As the cantonments are located far away from the main city, the Bangladesh Army has to establish such institutions. Bogura Cantonment Public School and College is also an educational institutions established and managed by the Bangladesh Army.
