Roger Corman was an executive producer and Mike Elliot was producer. They made a similar gangster film around the same time Dillinger and Capone. That featured F. Murray Abraham as Al Capone and Abraham played that role in this film.[1][2]
The Los Angeles Times said C. Thomas Howell's performance as Nelson "was about as frightening as Count Chocula."[3]
