Teams and qualification

edit

India and Sri Lanka directly qualified for the T20 World Cup as co-hosts, while Afghanistan, Australia and Bangladesh qualified as a top eight team from the previous edition. New Zealand and Pakistan qualified through ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings.[2]

In this cycle, a total of fourteen teams are participating in the Asian sub-regional phase, while the three leading associates, Nepal, Oman and Papua New Guinea, who took part in the 2024 T20 World Cup, enter the process at the regional final stage. The sub-regional phase is divided into two events with seven teams competing in each event. The top two teams of each sub-regional qualifier will advance to the Regional final.[3] The winner of the two sub-regional qualifiers in the East Asia Pacific region will also advance to the combined Asia-EAP regional final.[4]
