Background

edit

The Global Super League is an international club cricket tournament, organized by Cricket West Indies.[2] The inaugural season is being held in Guyana,[3] with 5 club teams from Australia, Bangladesh, England, Pakistan and the West Indies, with teams invited from the domestic competitions Twenty20 Big Bash, Bangladesh Premier League, T20 Blast, Pakistan Super League and Caribbean Premier League respectively.[4]

The final was held on December 7, 2024, at Providence Stadium, Guyana, between Rangpur Riders and Cricket Victoria. After concerns over player availability, Rangpur secured a dominant 56-run victory. They posted 178/3, with Soumya Sarkar (86) and Steven Taylor (68) leading the charge. In response, Cricket Victoria were bowled out for 122 runs in 18.1 overs. This marked Rangpur Riders first major title in the GSL. The final was celebrated as a milestone for South American cricket, and the tournament's success paved the way for future editions and increased global involvement.
