Šlapanice is a municipality and village in Kladno District in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 200 inhabitants.

Administrative part
editThe village of Budeničky is an administrative part of Šlapanice.
Etymology
editThe name is derived from the personal name Šlapan, meaning "the village of Šlapan's people".[2]
Geography
editŠlapanice is located about 18 kilometres (11 mi) north of Kladno and 31 km (19 mi) northwest of Prague. It lies in an undulating agricultural landscape in the Lower Ohře Table. The highest point is at 278 m (912 ft) above sea level. The stream Vranský potok flows through the municipality and supplies a fishpond in the village.
History
editThe first written mention of both Šlapanice and Budeničky is from 1318. Among the most notable owners of Šlapanice were Adam von Waldstein and the Kinsky family.[3]

editThere are no railways or major roads passing through the municipality.

The main landmark of the municipality is the Budeničky Castle. It is a large complex of several buildings, gradually built from the early Baroque period at the end of the 17th century until the Neoclassical period at the end of the 18th century. Next to the castle is a large park. Today the castle is inaccessible and unused.[6]
