Previous IfD of keep overturned at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2007 January 1. Speedy tag was removed due to not saying unambiguous delete, which I don't understand, but whatever. — Amarkov blahedits 03:40, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
- I was a bit confused when I read Image talk:PETA dumpster incident dead animal retrieval.jpg which seemed to contradict the log...there were some keep votes there; not sure how to interpret the result of all the information combined. --HappyCamper 03:57, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
- That was the result of the IfD; why it was there, I have no idea. The DRV I linked to was unanimous. -Amarkov blahedits 03:58, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Is there any good reason to delete this image? It seems to fit the topic. gdewar
- The image was deleted because it is a news media photo. Wikipedia's policies do not permit the use of news media photos (see WP:FAIR#Counterexamples #5). Even though we, as a non-profit with an educational purpose, could probably get away with it, there are commercial downstream uses of Wikipedia content. If we give them a media photo, we are depriving the news media of their right to sell the photo for a royalty. --BigDT 21:54, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Incorrect tagNv8200p talk 03:52, 7 January 2007 (UTC)- I don't think it's an incorrect tag. The site given says that all images are in the public domain. . . but it allows anyone to upload images to it (instructing users to only upload pd images), and may not be reliable. Either way, if the image is not needed to illustrate this species of condor, it should be deleted. – Quadell (talk) (random) 15:56, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

- It's not orphaned, it's the source of Image:Birefringence.png. There's not much point uploading diagrams in raster format only; it makes it very difficult for people to cleanly edit them. I know wikimedia is meant to have SVG support directly [1] but it doesn't seem to work in this case, all I see is some icon of a drawing palette on the image page and when linked in an article I just get a text link to the file. If you think this can be fixed perhaps let me know how on my talk page otherwise I'd say keep both files until full SVG support is there.--Russell E 21:33, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
- Not deleted - that's just weird. I saved the svg and opened it up in firefox and it looks like the PNG you pointed out. I am going to copy this discussion to the talk page so that it will be there in case this comes up again. --BigDT 02:05, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

- Comment. This was originally used in {{para-stub}} and was never intented to appear in any article as "regular" image. So I'd say the decision is whether or not para-stub or any related stub is better with this image or in its present form without this? jni 12:25, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
- Comment - it may be a non-free image. The source website says, "feel free to download anything you like". That's not the same as releasing it into the public domain and it isn't necessarilly even a claim of authorship. Unless a clipart site explicitly says that they created the content, it could just be stuff that they found on the internet. I looked and didn't see any terms of use, so unless we can get any more information, it should probably be deleted as a potentially non-free image. --BigDT 22:05, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

- "Royalty free" does not mean free in the Wikipedia sense of the word. For example, I may give you permission to replicate an item internally within your organization without paying royalties for each use. I may give you permission to distribute to third parties. But that permission alone does not automatically mean that you have the right to sub-license that permission. Unless you have something that explicitly says they have released all rights or some similar text, they probably should not be used here. Thanks. --BigDT 04:54, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
