Battle of Adal (15th century) moved to draftspace

edit

Thanks for your contributions to Battle of Adal (15th century). Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back.  // Timothy :: talk  00:36, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello, this topic is not covered by many historians, Richard Pankhurst clearly talks about the battle in his book that I cited on that page, I don't seem to get the problem here ? Yubudirsi (talk) 05:45, 11 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

New articles lacking sources for notability

edit

Recently you have created multiple new articles which lack references clearly showing notability.

  • Please add references showing notability to the article. Articles that fail to show notability may be deleted; adding references will improve the article and assist in preventing deletion. Once you have added references showing notability, please submit to Articles for Creation (see article for link).
  • Before proceeding, please read the following guidelines Independent sources, reliable sources, Significant coverage, Cite your sources, primary sources and Notability.
  • Please pay particular attention to the significant coverage guideline, to show notability sources need to have multiple sources which address the topic 'directly and in detail.
  • Articles which do not have sources showing notability may be deleted or merged/redirected to other articles.
  • Sources connected to the subject (in anyway) cannot be used to show notability.

If you have questions, please feel free to ask them at the WP:TEAHOUSE,  // Timothy :: talk  00:53, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Deletion discussion about Battle of Jazja

edit

Hello Yubudirsi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Battle of Jazja, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Battle of Jazja.

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|TimothyBlue}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Ways to improve First Battle of Yedaya

edit

Hello, Yubudirsi,

Thank you for creating First Battle of Yedaya.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

This battle is just a passing mention in the sources with no indication of the notability we expect from a stand-alone article

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Mccapra}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Hello, I don't really understand what you mean, could you be more clear on the passing mention ? I don't understand how that's an issue really ? The primary source as well as the secondary source mention a battle taking place, they mention where its taking place as well and the belligerents, maybe there's something I'm missing, also how much time do I have to add more sources ? Secondary sources covering the history of the Adal Sultanate are very rare, it's really an under-researched subject. I just bought two more books which cover the topic, they're set to arrive soon.   Your addition to Sultanate of Ifat has been removed or altered, as it appears to closely paraphrase a copyrighted source. Limited close paraphrasing or quotation is appropriate within reason, so long as the material is clearly attributed in the text. However, longer paraphrases which are not attributed to their source may constitute copyright violation or plagiarism, and are not acceptable on Wikipedia. Such content cannot be hosted here for legal reasons; please do not post it on any page, even if you plan to fix it later. You may use external websites or printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If you own the copyright to the text, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the copyright but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Thank you. Dylan620 (he/him • talkedits) 00:42, 16 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Adal Sultanate

edit

  Welcome to Wikipedia. Unfortunately, content you added to a Wikipedia article appears to be a minority or fringe viewpoint, and appears to have given undue weight to this minority viewpoint, and has been reverted. To maintain a neutral point of view, an idea that is not broadly supported by scholarship in its field must not be given undue weight in an article about a mainstream idea. Feel free to use the article's talk page to discuss this, and take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Magherbin (talk) 14:45, 1 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello, No.
It was an extract of Amélie Chekroun's book talking about how the Argobba claim to Ifat and Adal is baseless, I don't know why you deleted it please be more precise. Yubudirsi (talk) 00:46, 2 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
The thesis introduces fringe theory thats not widely accepted as explained on the same text "This idea was first put forward by Volker Stitz in 1973, then was subsequently widely taken up in historiography". "Cette idée a été pour la première fois avancée par Volker Stitz en 1973, puis a été par la suite largement reprise dans l’historiographie". Fringe theories are not to be put in articles. Do you think that the edit didnt also include original research about "mixed Hararis"? where did Amelie even mention this? Do not include original research and fringe theories onto articles. Its the Somali connection to Adal and Ifat thats fringe here and Amelie Chekroun explains this in the same paper. She states that Harari connection to Harar has not been proven and is perplexing, this is because sources are limited in Harar due to it being closed off until the 19th century. If you would like we will include your fringe theory (better worded without original research) however the line where Amelie Chekroun states Somalis made less than a fraction of the Adal army, they appropriate Harari Adal history and how Hararis have more of a claim to it than Somalis should also be included, see p.17. What do you think? Magherbin (talk) 04:16, 2 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Introduction to contentious topics

edit

You have recently edited a page related to the Horn of Africa (defined as including Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and adjoining areas if involved in related disputes), a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
