NYC Meetup: Saturday, December 4

We meet outside by the trees at 5:00 PM.

Our next Wikipedia NYC Meetup is this weekend on Saturday Dec 4 at Brooklyn Museum during their awesome First Saturdays program, starting at 5 PM.

A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be 'Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968', and the accompanying "WikiPop" project, with specially-created Wikipedia articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.

This will be a museum touring and partying meetup, so no excuses about being a shy newbie this time. Bring a friend too!

You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.

To keep up-to-date on local events, you can also join our mailing list.

Randy Savage

Hi V2c

I (again) removed the {{recent death}} template from the above-captioned article. Please see the edit summary (and the previous one) for the rationale.

Regards, Bongomatic 11:41, 22 May 2011 (UTC) Should you wish to reply, please do so here. I will watch this page for a few days, so no {{talkback}} or other comment on my talk page is required.

Thanks for letting me know. However, while the numbers of edits have gone down a bit, there is still very significant activity among editors regarding his death, not nearly at a low enough level to be considered "normal". While it says "perhaps a hundred or more" in the documentation, I don't think that number should be taken as a litmus test, and as news continues to pour in we may again see spikes in activity. That's why I tagged it. Let me know what you think of my assessment. Thanks. Valley2city 11:50, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
I think it's a sensationalistic and unseemly template that is occasionally necessary. Here, there have only been 18 editors in the past 12 hours, and 52 in the past 24—so way below the threshold, and obviously falling fast. The documentation is somewhat two-headed, with focuses variously on uncertainty about content and guidance on edit frequency (suggesting possibility of edit conflict). There was a recent TfD discussion that suggested there may be a consensus to merge it with {{current}}—literally not correct in most cases, but generally more appropriate. I saw when it was put on and took no action as the article was at that time being edited very rapidly. Anyway, feel free to do what you think appropriate—If you do, I won't remove it again until the 24-hour stat has come down to something in the 30s. Bongomatic 12:01, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

You're invited to the New York Wiknic!

You could be having this much fun! Seriously, consider coming.

This message is being sent to inform you of a Wikipedia picnic that is being held in your area next Saturday, June 25. From 1 to 8 PM or any time in between, join your fellow volunteers for a get together at Norman's Landscape (directions) in Manhattan's Central Park.

Take along your friends (newbies permitted), your family and other free culture enthusiasts! You may also want to pack a blanket, some water or perhaps even a frisbee.

If you can, share what you're bringing at the discussion page.

Also, please remember that this is the picnic that anyone can edit so bring enough food to share!

To subscribe to future events, follow the mailing list or add your username to the invitation list. BrownBot (talk) 19:26, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Hurricaine listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Hurricaine. Since you had some involvement with the Hurricaine redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion (if you have not already done so). Inks.LWC (talk) 01:21, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Columbia University access

Hi, Malik Shabazz put me on to you as a possible facilitator. I am trying to get hold of the PhD thesis which is linked here. The ultimate host is Columbia University and it requires a username/password. Do you have any suggestions? Can you access the thing yourself? It is for use on the James Tod article, prior to a GAN run. Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 07:52, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
