Teahouse

Do not give incorrect or unhelpful answers at the Teahouse or at any other help venue. Unless you are certain that your answer is correct and helpful, do not answer at all. Cullen328 (talk) 09:11, 1 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Which answer was unhelpful? This user is fairly new, and you shouldn't bite the newcomers. BadEditor93 (talk) 09:28, 1 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Aptly named BadEditor93, which of their Teahouse edits were bad and which were good? And why do you think that "fairly new" editors should be answering questions at the Teahouse? We need editors with experience and knowledge answering questions there. Cullen328 (talk) 09:35, 1 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Well I am new, I am just Learning. Taymallah Belkadri (talk) 09:59, 1 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Cullen328 Maybe they are new too? Taymallah Belkadri (talk) 10:06, 1 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
You didn't really answer my question. Which ones are bad, according to you? I think that any editor can answer a question at the Teahouse as long as they can be helpful. BadEditor93 (talk) 10:42, 1 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I do not know what you mean. Taymallah Belkadri (talk) 10:44, 1 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I was replying to @Cullen328. BadEditor93 (talk) 10:52, 1 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Oh ok then @BadEditor93! Taymallah Belkadri (talk) 10:54, 1 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I understand the problem was when Taymallah offered to do something for another user who was asking for help in the Teahouse, but then Taymallah asked the exact same question because they didn't know what to do either. It looked at first glance like the question had been answered, but instead you've got two users who don't know what to do & nothing had been done! It just made it really confusing to figure out whether anyone had resolved the query.
You should only offer to help someone in the Teahouse if you know what you're doing and how to do it, otherwise it's the very definition of being unhelpful (not helping). The Teahouse is there for users to ask for help from more experienced editors, who know the answer. I understand Taymallah was trying to be helpful, but they didn't do anything to solve the original problem, so were therefore (unintentionally) unhelpful. Precisely. Cullen328 (talk) 18:48, 1 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
