Moksi (DJs)

With respect, I would like to appeal the target change of Moksi (DJs) from Los Amsterdam to Spinnin' Records. While I can agree that an {{R to list entry}} is possible in this case, currently Moksi is not mentioned at the record label article and cannot be listed there without a source to conform with WP:LISTPEOPLE. I chose the former target as the only plausible mention of the music duo anywhere on Wikipedia (other possible targets are other DJs, which would be confusing as Moksi is not an alternative name for them). • @JalenFolf: I honestly thing that this group shouldn't have a redirect at all. You're right, Spinnin' Records doesn't mention him, but a one-time collaboration on another musician's album is the opposite of helpful. I say delete the redirect and if they have enough success someday to be notable, you can make an article. Oiyarbepsy (talk) 07:56, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Msccnyc

Hi, I'm new to wiki and would like help moving an article about the Midtown South Community Council from the neighborhood page of Midtown South to it's own wikipedia page. I understand that this is a conflict of interest and I'm not trying to step on any toes. If I must ask for an experienced volunteer to do this for me, would this be the appropriate way to ask? Should I like...

Plip!

or something? Please help me

  • @Msccnyc: Msc, unfortunately, I don't think Wikipedia is an appropriate place for your content. While a section within the article of the neighborhood is certainly appropriate, an entire article is not. To put things in perspective, we don't have an article on the Seattle City Council. I'll probably change the article to a redirect that points to the neighborhood. Oiyarbepsy (talk) 21:47, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

List of Virgin Media Ireland television channels

Check the dates...there is no 'edit war'. This is another drive-by vandal account trying to add channel lists to the encyclopedia that we long ago removed because we are not a television listings source, and the page is a redirect to another article. I refuse to 'discuss' anything with someone only here to disrupt, which Go Jetters is doing. Nate (chatter) 20:49, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

County Cleveland

Hi I only renamed the article in panic to stop user:Red Jay from reverting it to a redirect back to Cleveland, England multiple times and describing the edits as the County not existing, at least not in that name. Is it not common for counties without -shire to be called “County ...” I’ll put a rename discussion on talk page can you please watch the page if an editor reverts it again. I just thought out of the three articles areas (two redirect and the article) County Cleveland fit rest of the counties. Hopefully my panic isn’t seen in a negative light I was doing it to atleast have article to talk about. I did communicate on the user’s talk page User:talk: Red Jay. Chocolateediter (talk) 17:15, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

Added topic on talk of the article so that Red Jay can express their point of the name change. Thank you for your edits. Chocolateediter (talk) 17:28, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

Ok, I started a requested move discussion at Talk:County Cleveland. Oiyarbepsy (talk) 17:28, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

  The Brilliant Idea Barnstar
This is for all your work at List of patron saints by occupation and activity. Thanks for sticking to it and taking the article completely through an alphabetical rewrite. Congratulations! Elizium23 (talk) 06:30, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Aww, thanks so much Elizium23, just trying to help out. Oiyarbepsy (talk) 06:50, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Needs elucidation

Regarding this edit, your summary said "it is not appropriate to link to a user page" but you didn't say why. There will be editors who were unaware of this. Care to explain? Moriori (talk) 20:40, 1 March 2021 (UTC)

  • Moriori (talk · contribs)I somewhat shocked that I would need to explain, but okay. Article space is for our readers. User space is for our editors. We should not be linking our readers to our editor spaces unless it very very clear that we are doing so. The link on the article did not at all indicate that it was a link to a user page, and in fact, suggested it was a link to a separate article about Essjay.
  • Of course, what makes this worse is that this link not only is pointing to an editor space, but to a controversial human's user page. Having such a link is a vandalism magnet. For these reasons, we should never have a link to a Wiki policy or user page in the text of an article, and on disambiguation and hatnotes, only with the explicit text that it points to a Wikipedia policy page. Oiyarbepsy (talk) 20:46, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
Nonsense. But as you don't like to link to his userpage in the text, let's do it another way, as I have done. Before you are tempted to revert, make sure you visit the Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger pages. Moriori (talk) 21:11, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
@Moriori: The case of Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger don't apply well in this case, in my opinion. Wales and Sanger are founders, in good terms with the Wikipedia project, have served honorably, and continue to serve as public faces of the Wikipedia project to this day (yes, I say this of Sanger despite his periodic criticisms). None of this is true of Essjay, who committed serious academic fraud, embarrassed Wikipedia to the entire world, and resigned to avoid a possible ban. With Essjay's permanent departure, he is no longer a public figure, unlike Wales and Sanger, and privacy should be respected. One last factor, Essjay's user page is nothing more than a retired template, unlike Wales and Sanger whose userpages give their perspectives on Wikipedia.
We have a long list of WP:Wikipedians with articles and almost none of them have links to their userpage because most of them aren't public faces of Wikipedia. Oiyarbepsy (talk) 21:32, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
