Serious question

edit

Do you think that an IP editor who says "Wikipedia is dominated by ax-grinders, mostly from the left," is here to improve the project? Fred Zepelin (talk) 22:25, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Not exactly, but your previous comments on that page made me think of the question to ask you. Kline | yes? 22:47, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm very pro-IP-editor. I'm not pro-believe-that-all-these-IPs-are-different-people on that talk page. There's sockpuppets and meatpuppets all over that discussion, and those particular IPs should be disregarded. One was already blocked for sockpuppetry. Rollback granted

edit

Hi Kline. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle. It just adds a [Rollback] button next to a page's latest live revision - that's all. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only. Never use rollback to revert good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or any other inappropriate purpose, the rights will be revoked.
  • Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask!

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Anarchyte (talk) 11:16, 19 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

HI I'm sorry you rejected my page. I'm doing my best, I don't understand why!!! I've been working on this page for months, but I always get rejected. It's not right! I love Wikipedia, and I trust I support it very much, silently, but I support it. I would like to create other pages, but if they don't accept me on this one I think I'll throw in the towel. It's not fair because there are pages accepted without funds, why?

@Cinefilm It's a hard process to get accepted in AfC if you don't do it properly. Please be careful next time when making edits in discussions

edit

Be careful when you make edits like this in discussions. The person who added this was the one who bought up the discussion and was trying to make a comment on what someone else had said. By adding what you thought their position was without checking first, you caused confusion because me and some other editors thought they were potentially trying to sway the vote into their favor by adding their view twice. This is not a condemnation of what you did, but just a word of caution because others may not be as nice about something like this as I am here. ChessEric 16:49, 24 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

On 27 October 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Dennis Law (American football), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Dennis Law broke an "unwritten commandment" while returning a punt, causing him to get tackled in the end zone? November Articles for creation backlog drive

edit

Hello Kline:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

There is a backlog of over 1600 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:24, 31 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

Caught by an open proxy block but this host or IP is not an open proxy. Using school wifi, not a VPN. My IP address is 163.116.130.21. Would really like to be able to edit Wikipedia at school but caught by a false rangeblock. Let's hope the second time is the charm. Klinetalk to me!contribs 15:12, 16 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Since the IP range is globally blocked across all Wikimedia projects, we're not going to get any action there. And since your account is not blocked, there's nothing I can lift and you can edit from other IPs. So ... your next option is to go to WP:IPECPROXY and follow those instructions to request IP block exemption by email. — Daniel Case (talk) 07:16, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

}

@Daniel Case, I have already emailed them and I have been waiting for over a month with absolutely no answer. I don't know what's going on but I just want a response so I can get back to editing. Klinetalk to me!contribs 14:23, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

OK, I've given you three months of IPBE. Hopefully by then they will have responded. And if not, and you continue to edit the way you have for the past four years, then that would be an argument for permanent IPBE. Daniel Case (talk) 21:26, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Alright, thank you very much for the help. If they don't email back in the next three, I'll ask again. Thanks again for the help! Klinetalk to me!contribs 23:04, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

New page reviewer granted

edit

Hi Kline. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page, including checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline.
  • Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any steps.
  • Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:20, 24 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Regarding Draft:Tankeshwar Kumar

edit

Yesterday I submitted an article on a professor named Draft:Tankeshwar Kumar and the message left by you said that this article does not follow notability guidelines. And out of that 8 criteria i think this article follows 6th critera which states that “The person has held a highest-level elected or appointed administrative post at a major academic institution or major academic society.” Because he is currently vice chancellor at Central University of Haryana and vice chancellor is the heighest post in a university in india and the university is also a central university and not a private and he has been also a member of National Academy of Sciences. I have updated the article today with some other references and also created a award section which may help. Thanks TheSlumPanda (talk) 07:37, 14 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

@TheSlumPanda I declined at the time due to the references in the article not passing WP:GNG. If you do add more sources that do follow the guidelines, you might have more luck in getting it into mainspace. Klinetalk to me!contribs 16:48, 14 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

edit

Hello Kline,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Hello, Kline. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or draft page you started, "پیش‌نویس:Mehdi Jahangiri".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material, the draft has been deleted. Question from BernardusMallus (07:15, 9 May 2024)

edit

Hi Kline, thanks for being my mentor. I have a question about publishing a new page … I’ve drafted this in my sandbox and now want to start making it a publicly available page. Should I ask you to review it first, or can you point me to an article on the process of moving from sandbox to published page please? Many thanks, BernardusMallus --BernardusMallus (talk) 07:15, 9 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello @BernardusMallus and welcome to Wikipedia! The best way for you to get your article accepted into the Wikipedia mainspace would be to put it through articles for creation, where you can get advice and a review on whether it needs improvement. If you want any advice from me, I'd be happy to help. Cheers! Klinetalkcontribs 13:53, 9 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks so much @Kline - that's very useful - much appreciated. BernardusMallus (talk) 20:05, 17 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again @Kline - I've moved the article here now and have requested an edit. Great if you can take a quick look and suggest any changes - all feedback is welcome. BernardusMallus (talk) 00:44, 18 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome @BernardusMallus, I've taken a quick look and I would recommend that you state what she does in the lead as the first thing. Wikipedia likes to note why they are notable first and foremost. A second recommendation would be converting the table you have into an infobox. My third and final recommendation for now is to remove any external links and potentially convert them into wikilinks if possible. Klinetalkcontribs 19:33, 18 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again @Kline, I've fixed the lead, changed to an InfoBox, and removed some external links. An important link is to the organisation NAKO, which is only on Ukrainian wikipedia, so that one remains. BernardusMallus (talk) 13:13, 20 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from VeniceBreeze (18:48, 23 May 2024)

edit

I am curious as to why Beastie Boys Square would be merged with Paul's Boutique when there are hundreds of articles dating back 15 years... Doesn't seem appropriate to merge a destination in NYC to an album when there is justification and a story --VeniceBreeze (talk) 18:48, 23 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@VeniceBreeze I've looked at the discussion and it seems like they believe it can be merged with another article as the content currently in the article can be put in another article with context. If you can put some more information, perhaps they will rethink their decision on whether to merge. Klinetalkcontribs 21:27, 23 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I did put more and there is plenty more to do but i shouldnt have to deliver a front page article to prove this has independent notability from the album. There are articles in Europe dating back to 2013. (Personal attack removed) The page is 3 days old.. let it develop before you assasinate it. They have a huge fanbase to contribute to the article. Thanks though. VeniceBreeze (talk) 01:13, 24 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@VeniceBreeze A good place to develop the article without it being deleted would be the draftspace. You have plenty of time to improve the article there and then move it back, hopefully without any concerns. Klinetalkcontribs 01:15, 24 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't want to talk about it.. it's so ridiculous it just will make me mad. Please don't bother me anymore. VeniceBreeze (talk) 01:21, 24 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

I reverted your changes to the Don Cherry lead. You may have not been aware that there was extensive discussion over the wording, although I don't know how you missed it. @Andrew Englehart Thanks for informing me, I believe the fix made by myself and Flibirigit was enough to keep the discussion from the talk page in the lead while changing it, as not everyone in the discussion (including me) and the media believe it was a racist comment. Hi @Ponivehu! I've taken a quick skim at the article and it looks like you might need a couple more in-depth and reliable sources. Since it's located in Florida, you might have luck looking at newspapers in the area, such as the Tampa Bay Times for example (which has some really good in-depth local reporting), to find the last couple pieces. You should also add some more content, perhaps on the history of the university. Cheers! Klinetalkcontribs 22:39, 6 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from 420pinhead (10:31, 9 October 2024)

edit

When I look at my contributions there is a number. I assume -# red is bad and +#green is good like stocks. My first edit I deleted a reference that was incorrect. It had a crime at the wrong felony level. I added a citation to the legislature's codified law that showed it was class 5. So I changed 10 years to 5 years and fine amount. I got -7. 2nd edit I added a citation to local paper about a rapper charged with class 5 felony for edibles. I get +300. Only thing I did wrong the first time was under brief description I put changed a 6 to 5 and I changed a 4 to a 5. Oh yeah, ask a question. ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

edit

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:42, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Lockerby_Composite_School

edit

Hi Kline:

I noticed that you had edited the Lockerby Composite School Wikipedia page to revamp it and to get rid of promo content (in order to maintain a neutral tone). I understand that information on Wikipedia pages needs to be given the proper amount of emphasis as well. Having said that, the revisions you included did contain several pieces of controversial information, including additions about a murderer, a pipe bomb threat, and inappropriate teacher controversies, whereby other high schools in this school board (Rainbow District School Board) do not have such commentaries on their Wikipedia pages.

I did create a Wikipedia account and used an LCS moniker (this login) to go back and revert these controversial edits (in my opinion). In the interest of ethics and transparency, and in terms of affiliation, I do not have any stake in, volunteer for, or work for this institution, but did attend to the school for a brief time many decades ago.

In short, you are correct that I did not explain the revert (hoping that happens here). However, I believe that the original article maintains a neutral tone, with appropriate emphasis, and that the original article aligns more appropriately with the other high schools' Wikipedia pages for this school board.

Thank you.

Hi:
I believe the following revisions to the Wikipedia page are appropriate and align with the other school entries from Rainbow District School Board. Your neutral writing and removal of promo from the original remains: https://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=Lockerby_Composite_School&oldid=1261693648
I had made edits this morning, but Admin Adikiko said no to the edits. I'm hoping to can please review and support the https://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=Lockerby_Composite_School&oldid=1261693648 revisions that align with other school board schools.
Thank you. 1958LCS (talk) 13:47, 7 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hiya @1958LCS. I did a quick scan of the other schools in the school board and if you can tell, they also had a promotional banner at the top. Ideally, I would like to get rid of all of them for the school board but Lockerby was the one I had started on. I don't see a need to remove the history section and put it in the lead as of now, but if you'd like to suggest any additions I'd be happy to add them. Cheers! Hi Kline:
Thank you for responding. I agree that they should probably all be deleted (maybe this is the best course of action?).
Having said that, if not deleting all of them, my thoughts would be to keep them all consistent, short, and neutral (if using the current Lockerby entry as a template):
1- Keep the column on the right side
2- Keep the one sentence at the beginning
3- Delete history section (too difficult to know history of all of the schools and opening was in first sentence at beginning)
4- Keep academics section (all schools seem to have something - but short one paragraph, like the STEP Lockerby one would be succinct)
5- Keep extracurriculars (Lockerby's is succinct, although I would delete Mock Trial because it appears to be a club)
6- Delete controversies (all schools most likely have them and too difficult to know history of all of the schools)
7- Delete notable alumni (all schools most likely have them and too difficult to know history of all of the schools - unless it's mentioned in the alumni's Wikipedia page?)
Please let me know what you think.
Again, thank you for responding and taking the time to listen, review, and edit. 1958LCS (talk) 19:14, 7 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
No worries about taking the time in responding and review, too many people are dismissive and I don't really like biting newcomers for that reason. I'll address your points in the way you formatted them so it's easier to follow.
Point 1; I presume you mean the infobox and that'll always be something I'll agree to keep.
Point 2; also obvious that I'd keep that, it's the lead after all.
Point 3 is where I start to disagree. I originally based the edit off of St. Charles College (Sudbury), Amador Valley High School, and Stuyvesant High School. Although admittedly I did revamp St. Charles College which included adding a history section, you can see that they all have a section about the history of the school. Perhaps some sections can be merged into history, but I wouldn't remove it entirely.
Point 4; agreed.
Point 5; agreed.
Point 6; perhaps can be merged into history? Now that I think of it, having a separate section for one piece of history seems excessive.
Point 7; generally they should be mentioned in the notable alumni's article but sometimes they aren't. Regardless of that, they are all supported by references that say they went to that high school. The previous three articles I mentioned have those sections, so I wouldn't delete it personally.
Cheers! Klinetalkcontribs 21:30, 7 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
