Removing sections from to Genius Bar article
editPlease do not delete content from articles on Wikipedia, as you did to Genius Bar. It may be considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Please discuss changes in talk page before removing sections. It can possibly be considered a violation of the GFDL in some cases.
- (responding to your message on my talk page) It has nothing to do with being personal. The message above is mostly from a template and the closest one I know of. I didn't mean "vandalism" directly but I don't know of any templates that don't have the word "vandalism" that cover responding to removing sections. I have all of them readily on hand and integrated into my browser using a few scripts (see my User:ZacBowling/monobook.js page) since I frequently volunteer as recent change patroller looking for real vandalism, and every page I've edited I monitor since many of the pages I end up reverting are normally targeted again shortly afterward. It's not a personal attack, and I don't take it personally.
- However on the topic, in my own experience at all of the local Apple User groups I've attended (I'm a software developer and I tour from user group to user group across the country to speak about Mac development and to demo my software) that the reservation policy is one of the first things people think of when you bring up a discussion on the Genius Bar. It's not like a restaurant where that type of things is common and to be expected. This is customer service where this type of thing is not as common. Googling it brings a lot of results on the topic of people frustrated with the policy (over 930,000 results). Right now the article has nothing on the reservation policy (except that the monitors say your place in line). A short blurb about it at the very least would be encyclopedic. There isn't even anything on the online reservation system they have in place (which is more important then the red phone to me). It would even beneficial to point out that you get to skip the line if you pay for Apple's ProCare. I believe that the the few sentences I wrote on the topic are from a neutral point of view as well, even though (in my own opinion) most of the article seems to read like an advertisement only pointing out the positive sides of the Genius Bar. I personally believe its a great service Apple offers and one that I use myself. However, the reservation system is deeply integrated into how the Genius Bar works, from the ProCare plan, to the checking system, to the monitors displaying your place in line, to the online scheduling system. At the very least, documenting this unique type of reservation system that Apple innovated would definitely constitute as encyclopedic.
- Removing sections is not a very good practice if it can be avoided. Modifying it or at least bringing up a good faith discussion on the topic would better before making the decision to remove it. It's something that might lead into an edit war (which it is on the edge of becoming since you removed it again.) --ZacBowlingtalk 07:14, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
