RE: putting userboxes in tables

edit

Yeah, I keep meaning to get around to putting them in tables. Tables are one part of HTML (as well as Wiki language) I haven't really played with much, so I'll definately take the code from your page and work with it. Thanks for the offer! C4bl3Fl4m3 23:12, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

User satanist

edit

Do you have the code for this userbox or can you describe what it was? —David618 t 03:24, 31 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Nope, sorry; I formed my opinion entirely on the discussion at TfD. I'm sure someone could chop together one rather easily- it's more of a fairness issue to me. --Disavian 03:27, 31 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I already saw it on WP:DRVDavid618
Yeah, it comes and goes there. --Disavian 02:02, 2 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

For my own ref, the template is:

This user is a Satanist.

notability

edit

you'll want to subst the template user no notability pretty quickly incase an admin deletes it for no reason again. -- Chris Ccool2ax contrib. 21:54, 1 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Looks like I looked too late - didn't realize it was being deleted. Might be able to go back in google's cache and subst it from the source there. --Disavian 23:13, 1 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
That's actually not quite true... I first read about the template on the TfD page, I just didn't realize it was going to be speedied. -_- Disavian 07:03, 2 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Userfying Userboxen

edit

Thanks for userfying all my userboxen for me! I really appreciate it! (You're a sweetheart, btw.) <3 LaMenta3 04:35, 7 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Not to pick nits, but I wanted to make you aware that I have requested, on my userpage, that userbox templates not be userfied or otherwise changed. I'd like it if you respected that in future editing decisions. I simply want my userpage to show the marks of the continuing "one-box-at-a-time" userbox deletions, becaue even more strongly than I believe in keeping userboxes, I believe that we need to decide on the subject once & for all & put it behind us. Thanks for your consideration.--Ssbohio 03:20, 8 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I set AWB to exclude pages with the string "Ssbohio" -- that work for you? --Disavian 03:23, 8 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
And what's so hard about reverting your page? The original boxes are getting redirected to userfied ones anyway, it's the same difference.--Disavian 19:27, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for fixing mine, too. I corrected the spelling of "necessarily" on a couple of the boxes on your page--they had "nesassarily" instead. --Grace 05:29, 8 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thankyou, as per above, for dealing with my human form userbox. It is greatly appreciated. Dev920 09:35, 8 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Userfying?

edit

What exactly did you do to my userpage, by doing this? I don't really care, but would like to know.MollyBloom 22:30, 8 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

There's been a big deal about userboxes that say anything that could be remotely construed as divisive; thus, people have been putting userboxes in "user space," e.g., a subpage of a userpage, where it's okay to have them. I've stored a copy of several userboxes that could possibly be deleted at random by anti-userbox admins, and have gone through userpages, making particular boxes point to the version I have, instead of the official version. See WP:TGS for more on this, as I don't feel like I'm explaining it correctly. --Disavian 22:35, 8 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Deletion review

edit

Hi. It's been 5 days since User:Dtm142/User no evil boxes and Template:User gangster went up for deletion review. I have restored and userfied them. Template:User gangster has been userfied to User:Dtm142/User gangster.

I'm just wondering if you would like a copy of user gangster in your directory. I'm also wondering if I can put User:Dtm142/User no evil boxes back in the Wikipedia directory. Thanks. Dtm142 16:44, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure what to do about gangster... I'll pass on it, for now. But you can restore User:Dtm142/User no evil boxes however you wish, as it is your box. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 01:50, 19 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Userboxen in your user space

edit

Dear Disavian;

I am currently cleaning up Category:User templates, and I see a lot of duplicates from your user space in there. Would you be so kind as to check to see which are the duplicates and get them deleted from your user space to help in the over all effort to clean up that category and the sub-categories? It would be really appreciated.

Wait a second, how would this work? Are you asking me to adopt a userbox, or simply point to yours in my list? Actually, I've got a lot of work I need to do on all this userbox stuff, but school has kept me busy :( —Disavian (talk/contribs) 03:34, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
The latter. :-) I'm trying to see if fellow Wikipeidans are willing to host a link to it as the main templates page is no longer holding userfied userboxes. Seeing that it is already userfied, "re-adopting" (as it were) it would be a bit redundant. :-) אמר Steve Caruso (desk/poll) 14:14, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
For consistency, a userbox User:Disavian/Userboxes/PolCompass that redirects to User:The_Thadman/Userbox/PolCompass might be a good solution. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 02:30, 6 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Userboxes

edit

Hey, I noticed you've done a lot of work on getting userboxes out of official project and template namespaces. Wikipedia:Userboxes and all of its subpages are going to be deleted soon as the final part of the German solution, so I was just giving you a heads-up to make sure that you have all of your relevant infrastructure or whatever hosted entirely in userspace. You may want to pass on this message to other people involved in this area; I must confess, I no longer keep enough tabs on this issue to know who they are. --Cyde↔Weys 17:37, 6 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads-up... I've actually been on a bit of a wikibreak for maybe a month, so I haven't done much in that category lately. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 23:59, 6 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, thank you, thank you for saving my userboxes! I'm amazed by the scale of this initiative. I have been away from Wikipedia for most of the past couple of months for various reasons. Possible Userbox Solution

edit

This is a form letter, please don't reply directly. Do, however, feel free to discuss this solution I've come up with.

I've made an unofficial place for all User Boxes (hopefully) safe from overzealous Admins. Feel free to add any you like, edit any there, or just list your already made userboxes there. Also feel free to edit the main page (the user page) in any way that you think might help. Please note, however, that this is a user page and not an official Wikipedia page, so almost any User Box will be tolerated as long as it's within reason. UserBox 03:15, 6 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair use images and orphaned status

edit

Greetings; I'd like to take a moment to talk to you about some issues raised by your edits here and here. First, fair use images are not permitted to be used outside of the main article namespace per terms of Wikipedia:Fair use criteria item #9. This precludes their use on templates, such as userboxes. Second, an image that is tagged as a fair use tag that is not used in the main article namespace is subject to deletion, per terms of Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#Images.2FMedia item #5. If you have any questions about these policies, please feel free to ask me. Thanks, --Durin 18:36, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

If you're going to remove the image, fix the template; give it a replacement image or put some appropriate text in there. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 18:49, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Userfication bad

edit

The userfication of userboxes is really bad...just take a look at how horrid the code looks for the copy of the Stargate box you have in your user space. Which looks better?

{{User:Disavian/Userboxes/Stargate|SG1|SG1glyph|Human}}
or...
{{User Stargate|SG1|SG1glyph|Human}}

See just how much better a Template space box looks over a userfied bow? It is shorter so that it won't word wrap in categories either. That is why I started this in the first place. After sorting through the 1,000s of user boxes, I saw just how much an eyesore the user template categories where with these templates in user space. Instead of...

Template:User A foo Template:User B foo Template:User C foo

we have...

User:User bar name 2/Fooboxbar/User B foo User:User example name 3/Exboxex/User C foo User:User foo name 1/Fooboxfoo/User A foo

The above are long and counter-intuitive. They would also wrap in the category lists, which makes looking at categories even harder. I know you have a lot of boxes in your space, but that is not where they should be, IMO. Hope I didn't offend. - LA @ 22:49, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Black on black violence

edit

Hey, your Nuclear Energy userbox was messed up by a guy who changed the color of the radiation warning symbol-- he turned it black & now it disappears into your black background... But u may wanna take this oppty to create a different NE box. We supporters of nuclear energy aren't too keen on having the radiation warning symbol as a symbol for the technology. One reason I'm for N Power is that, if new plants are finally built in the US, it will radically cut down on combustion of fossil fuels, leading to reduction in greenhouse gases, cutting down on global warming etc.,. Maybe a closeup of the distinctive curved lip of many Nuclear Power plant cooling silos, with birds perched on the edge.. you get my drift. JDG 16:50, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Disavian. Last week I made a userpage for myself, and have began by adding userboxes. I've made some myself, and am using some from your archive and the user:uxb. However, I'm unsure as to whether I should be "migrating" those to a archive page in my userspace. I'm also getting confused by the instructions of how to do it from the WP:GUS page. Lastly, I've read that fair use images aren't allowed, but then I've used some for some boxes I've made. I think. If you go to my userpage, you can see them there. There's a dr. pepper one, a coke, and some bbc ones etc. Maybe you would know better if they're not good, in which case I can change them. Thanks. -- Matthew Edwards 17:03, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Userbox: Separation

edit

Hello. I was hoping you might reconsider the Christian cross (standing alone) in that separation box. When I came across it as linked to someone else's page, I was offended by the obvious anti-Christian bigotry it emits out. How is the concept of separation of "religion and state" objectionable? And if it isn't, why isn't a more diverse and inclusive symbol in that userbox more fair? It seems to single out hatred for only fundamentalists/reactionaries of the Christian religion. How can it be diffused to represent what we are talking about, which is separation of religion and state. I hope you see my point on trying to be fair, and didn't create the userbox to attack Christians and Catholics. Thanks.Farinessplease1 (talk) 23:41, 1 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

edit

You didn't create this userbox—you're hosting it per GUS—but I imagine that you ought to be alerted in any case that it is at MfD. Cheers, Joe 17:50, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi I just came here to mention it and discuss it with you.:) If it is per GUS, who made it, don't know if that matters. I just think on such a subject it needs to be worded in a clearer way, I mean people can enjoy drugs or something but not "urge" others to do something as regards an illegal act. It is also a subject which can provoke intense 'debate' as you know. Don't know if this is your fault if it's not really yours, but the userbox is still 'dodgy' as it possibly 'urges' (its word) people to do drugs, which is illegal in the state wiki is in and in most of europe/the US. So please consider rewording it or not hosting it anymore. Pretty please, it is giving me a coronary lol (not really.) :) Merkin's mum 19:17, 12 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Some of the userboxes about drugs are not offensive, by the way, just so you know I don't object to most of them so much, at least, I'm not on a crusade. Squeakbox had one on his page once I think that wasn't so bad, but I rightly hate something that might be so worded as to encourage people to do something illegal. I'm not sure how I'm wasting Wikipedia's resources; remember WP:NOT#PAPER.
