Eugene Records is an independent record label from Lexington, Kentucky that specializes in punk and hardcore.[1] It is possibly the largest and longest running punk/hardcore record label in Central Kentucky, the next closest being Northern Kentucky's Sound Pollution.

History

edit

Eugene initially started as a fanzine by Mark Borders and Demonbabies founder, Jesus Rivera in 1995. Originally based out of Berea, Kentucky and later Lexington, Kentucky, this fanzine focused on local hardcore bands like Deep 13 and the Infected as well as more nationally known acts like Rancid . The fanzine took its name and imagery from an interviewed person in The Decline of Western Civilization.

It was not until Mark met Nathan Waters of the Lexington band the Infected that the idea of starting a label began to form. The first release was Infected/Redheaded Stepchildren Split 7". Nearly 30 albums have been released by over 15 groups since the labels' inception, as well as some other merchandise. With the exception of the Kenmores[2], all releases have been from Kentucky based bands.

In recent years, Eugene Records has been talking about picking up bands from Louisville, Kentucky.[3]

As of July 2008, the label is still running.
