The Museum of Non Participation
The Museum of Non Participation is a body of work which forms part of the wider practice of artist duo Karen Mirza and Brad Butler[1]. The artists "have repeatedly found themselves embedded in pivotal moments of change, protest, non-alignment and debate[2]"
The project began in 2007 after being "prompted by viewing the Pakistani lawyers’ movement protests through the windows of the Islamabad Art Museum, The Museum of Non Participation investigates neoliberal life through an imaginary and mobile institution that invites its visitors to question the possibilities of active withdrawal.[3]"
Acting either within or independently of organized art institutions, Mirza and Butler combine image, video, text and action to produce installations and ignite conversation surrounding civilian uprising and resistance in a post-colonial world. The Museum of Non Participation is an open concept project which is constantly re-establishing itself in relation to new audiences and collaborators.[4]
