User:CyclePat/Currently Working On/EV and Technology history
Pages to read from Singer. A history of technology.
- Petroleum p.119 : "Petrol and gas-oil" scarcely existed in 1980 or 1890. The motor car (ch. 18) and the aeroplane (ch. 17) where in the experimental stages and held out the vaguest promise of a worth while-market for petrol in the distant future.
- This page also talk about water-gas carburized with petrol according to a process invented by Thompson and Hind.
- Internal Combustion engine p.164 : "In 1884 Gottlieb Daimler (1834 - 1900) patented a small high-speed gas engine. By 1885 he added a crank case and a flywheel. The engine was cool by air which circulated around.
- p.165 : In 1889 Daimler patented a V type engine.
- p.527 : "Water power engines: Prime movers driven by water may be classified under 3 headings. 1) Water pressure motors, having a piston and cylinder with inlet and outlet valves: their action is that analogous of a steam- or gas-engine with water as the working fluid. 2) Water-wheels; discussed in volume 2 chap. 17. and volume 4 chap. 7. 3) Turbines, deriving their energy from high velocity jet of jets (the impulse machine), or from water supplied under pressure and passing through the vanes of a runner which is thereby caused to rotate (the reaction type)."
