The result of the move request was: Moved to World of Music (retailer). There's a definite consensus for a move of some sort, and amongst the options discussed, retailer seems to have the broadest support for the disambiguator. • Strongly oppose - the company site the original article in German use it exactly as the current article is titled. It is not an explanatory use of parentheses/brackets but rather that’s actually part of the name (common name, WP:COMMONKeizers (talk) 20:30, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
  • In that case, why is their website at https://wom.de/? Why does their FAQ page have simple "WOM" at the top? Why is their postal address "WOM"? As to WP:COMMONNAME, I would strongly dispute that any company's common name is in this form. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:41, 22 January 2024 (UTC)

The website URL isn't necessarily the same, and remember, I'm not saying that no one calls it "WOM", they do, but just as often you will see "WOM (World of Music)". The logo on their website is "WOM (World of Music)". The title of their webpages is "WOM World of Music". Third party sites talking about them mostly first mention "WOM (World of Music)" here, here. The name of the legal entity is WOM World of Music Produktions- und Verlags-Gesellschaft (granted, without parentheses). Your claim that "I would strongly dispute that any company's common name is in this form" - sounds unfounded and emotional - are you really an expert on common names of companies in the majority of countries and languages around the world? Or even Germany? Otherwise how would you know whether or not company names might include parentheses and words inside of parentheses? Taking a step back, when you disambiguate in Wikipedia, you have a choice to keep the short name then add the type of business in parentheses, or you can choose to use a longer and more unique, yet still common name, which is more intuitive. An example is Delta Faucet Company. No one actually calls it the Delta Faucet Company, yet this is a better title than Delta (faucets).Keizers (talk) 19:31, 22 January 2024 (UTC)

This is just not the way Wikipedia names organisations. This has been established by consensus. Once again, see WP:Acronym (name). It is clear that both the full name and the abbreviation are used for this company, both together and separately. We can use either, but not both. Given the abbreviation is ambiguous, we use the full name. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:42, 23 January 2024 (UTC)

@Necrothesp: Then let's get it right, the company is more commonly known as WOM and is rarely referred to exclusively as "World of Music" (those three words on their own, I could not find a single example). So if we do not use the full name "WOM (World of Music)" as the article title it should be WOM (company) or WOM (retailer) or WOM (music retailer). • Support the general concept of moving this but Oppose the particular disambiguator proposed. It appears this is a brand, not a comapny. The article says itself that it is a brand of the company jpc. So it should be moved to World of Music (brand). Bensci54 (talk) 17:14, 23 January 2024 (UTC)

  See my comment just above - I believe the bst disambuguator would be retailer or music retailer. It is now an online retailer. Previously it was an extremely well known chain of music stores across Germany similar to Tower Records (US) or HMV (UK). - Keizers (talk) 17:30, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
