I was on Fishermans Wharf in March of 2009. Bushman is alive and well! What a suprise to know that people would be so desprite to claim a man died even before they know the truth. Every man deserves to have a vacation I beleive. In his documenty he stated he left his family behind to make this all come true. So why hurt a man that only whats to make you laugh? Family ties needed to be restored and thats what he's doing. Please state only facts for his kids are affected be stupid remarks. Thank for your concerns, dear neibors your not forgotten just need to take care of home first. David Johnson was misrepresent by someone without his permission. He is alive and well. The bushman lives on to hold the one and only original "WORLD FAMOUS BUSHMAN OF FISHERMAN WHARFS" name. Look for the original bushman to be back this summer.

Proposed for deletion again (late 2009)

I added notability and deletion proposal tags to the article, I thought I was logged in at the time but I was not, so only my IP shows. Now after coming here to the discussion page, I see this article has been nominated for deletion before. If multiple people recognize this guy is not notable to anyone but some people walking down a side-walk, I think that lends more credence to my notion that this article should be deleted. The tag on the main page says: "Please help to establish notability by adding reliable, secondary sources about the topic." How many secondary souces do we need? There are 8. This guy is a big tourist attraction, and a real SF icon. Plus why is this page in Category:Noindexed pages? Is that something automatic with the proposed-for-deletion thing? Arrest

To the best of my knowledge David was not arrested under any "new" laws. but was charged with simple assault. Since he never did any thing to assault any body, just played a joke on them in full public view, he beat the charges. I don't think you have all the facts straight. He's come afoul of the law more than one time, albeit in minor ways. Someone was injured when startled by him, and it was not prosecuted. However, more than one person has complained about him to the police. It would take quite a bit of energy to find the references (it was quite some time ago). Who cares enough to do that? Notable?

It is quite a stretch to label what he does as "performance." He hides behind some bushes and attempts to scare people. My first encounter with him was late at night walking along the waterfront with my date. He startled me so badly I practically struck him, thinking I was being mugged. He then had the temerity to ask me for money, claiming that since he managed to startle me, I owed him some money for his "Service." It is difficult to imaging how he could be called a "busker." I have seen the real buskers in London's Underground, and these people have actual talent with which they entertain passers-by. The "Bushman" simply relies on a cheap gimmick. How true.

I saw him in October 2006. He had a crowd of maybe 20-30. His "act" is a bit low rent, but it kept everyone laughing.

Agreed. He is definitely iconic; out-of-towners ask where to find him and he's a hallmark of one of SF's most touristy areas. He's done it for 27 years and has received a fair amount of press. Two Bushmen

An article in SFSU's [x]press magazine says that "Many people are unaware that there are, in fact, two Bushmen. When [Gregory Jacobs] first came up with this gig, he recruited David Johnson, a man he met at Fisherman's Wharf. As they worked together they developed a close friendship. Johnson's deep voice scares those who unknowingly pass by the man-made bush. Back then, Johnson would hold the bush and Jacobs would tell the jokes, entertain those watching the action, and collect the tips. It has been about fifteen years, and now they are complete enemies. Jacobs accuses Johnson of running off with their money. Jacobs tries to avoid any conflicts with Johnson by not working where and when he is."[1]
Jacobs is also the subject of a short film, The Bush Man.[2] An article from 1999 makes it clear that Jacobs is actually the relative newcomer to the act: ""I look after him," says Gregory Jacobs, who recently joined the act as a full partner. Tourists

The lead starts out by saying this article is about one person. Then near the end it first mentions a second person. The whole thing is just confusing. MB 03:03, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
