Weipa Middens
editI was surprised the world famous middens are not mentioned in the article. They really have put Weipa on the map. Here is a link and a nice picture about it. http://vrroom.naa.gov.au/print/?ID=18825
Population
edit3000 is the local government area population but not all these people live in the town, which is what the article is about. One source in the reference section, that I recently added was published in 2004 and it claimed the town had a population of 2200. I'm not sure of the most correct method or usual way to indicate an Australian town's population, but I think 2200 is more accurate. - Shiftchange (talk) 11:54, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
Establishment year
editThe year Weipa was established needs resolving. The infobox and categories do not match. I'm not sure that because a church was built in the area that is when the town was established. - Shiftchange (talk) 01:31, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
Name
editWhere is the name from?MBG02 (talk) 14:11, 3 August 2018 (UTC)

Weipa, Queensland → Weipa – Moved from its plain name to an unnecessary disabiguated name by wbm1058 (talk · contribs) with no reason supplied. The undisambiguated term "Weipa" redirects to the unnecessarily disambiguated term. WP:NCAUST states "Most Australian settlement articles are at Town, State/Territory; however, the name of a city or town may be used alone if the place is the primary or only topic for that name (e.g., Sydney rather than Sydney, New South Wales). The town is clearly the primary topic, any other articles on Weipa relate to the town - i.e. Weipa Airport. - Mattinbgn (talk) 21:55, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
- Comment. I did supply a reason:
sync with article
. At 14:49, 18 July 2017 CalzGuy moved page Talk:Weipa, Queensland to Talk:Weipa (No reason for dab as per WP:NCAUST). However CalzGuy simply moved the talk page; he did not move the article. I reverted the move of this talk page to put it back in sync with the article. My rationale for not moving the article instead is also per WP:NCAUST:Most Australian settlement articles are at Town, State/Territory
. I didn't see this place rising to the level of Sydney, as other nearby localities Evans Landing, Nanum, Rocky Point, Trunding, and Weipa Airport all follow the convention of having ", Queensland" in their titles: Evans Landing, Queensland, Nanum, Queensland, Rocky Point, Queensland (Weipa Town), Trunding, Queensland, and Weipa Airport, Queensland. But after looking more closely at those, I see the nominator's point. – wbm1058 (talk) 22:18, 1 June 2020 (UTC) - Support per nom.--Ortizesp (talk) 05:30, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
- Support per nom and WP:DABCONCEPT since the other uses are also in Queensland anyway so a title like Weipa (town) would probably be needed if disambiguation was needed anyway. Crouch, Swale (talk) 07:24, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
Mines: work needed here
editThe Bauxite mining section needs a fair bit of work. I altered the claim that it was the largest in the world, but with 2006 data. Since then, output has more than doubled - Rio Tinto’s website now has it as 35m tonnes (16m in 2006) - and the output is from 3 mines not just 2 (that there were 2 before was not mentioned), with the gigantic Amrun mine (first shipment Dec 2018) now producing. Amrun is some 20km south of Weipa but RT consider it to be part of their Weipa operation. There is no separate Amrun page here. Boscaswell talk 06:33, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
