editWhy is this stadium part of the Defunct Stadia group? It is currently in use for many sporting events, as the article clearly states. - Alex
- The category is [[Category:Defunct athletics stadia]] which is correct - the athletics track has been removed. -- Arwel (talk) 16:43, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
Seating capacity and Record Crowds
editIn the seating/capacity records, can someone amend the Rugby rectangular record to 83,418 which occured between Australia vs NZ All Blacks on 7/8/2004.This is higher than the World cup final attendance.
Added numbers of 2010 NRL Grand Final. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.188.86.54 (talk) 08:06, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Financial and Management issues
editI think this article might be considered incomplete and unbalanced if it only mentions sporting events with record crowds etc, but does not contain some mention of the financial problems surrounding this stadium. For example it appears to have been built at a cost of $690 million, but by April 30, 2005 the Sydney Morning Herald was reporting that it was mired in debt and almost as hard to fill as it would be to demolish. The article goes on to state that "market capitalisation of the stadium, based on a share price of 8c, is less than $10 million"... although "independent valuation is in the range of $143 million to $157 million".
On November 16, 2006 it was reported in a Sydney Morning Herald article, that the ANZ Bank are to take control of Stadium Australia Group (and therefore the stadium itself) for $10m. Xagent86 21:58, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Renaming
editStadium will be renamed to ANZ Stadium on 1 Jan 2008. Suggest the article be renamed then (and not before) and a redirect put in place given the name will still be in common usage. Moa999 (talk) 03:19, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- I suggest we use this change as a prompt to consider naming all "naming rights" venues as their non-sponsored name, and using redirects. eg.
- Stadium Australia with redirects Telstra Stadium and ANZ Stadium
- Sydney Football Stadium with redirect Aussie Stadium
- This has been discussed before but nothing decided. Perhaps a comment on WP:AWNB would be worthwhile? -- Chuq (talk) 08:54, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Note: I just realised that "ANZ Stadium" also refers to an athletics centre in Brisbane. In this case, "ANZ Stadium" could be a disambig and not a redirect. A template such as {{ANZ Stadium}} which contains "[[Stadium Australia|ANZ Stadium]]" would allow people to easily link to the correct article while displaying the current (as of 2008 that is) name. -- Chuq (talk) 08:58, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
The suggestion appears to be popular as discussed at Wikipedia:AWNB#Stadium naming. I'll move the article sometime between now and January 1. -- Chuq (talk) 01:10, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- The best idea, but it seems someone is unhappy not having the free advertising, and has changed it again. No wnoder they drop wads of cash on doing this, inexplicably it works... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.168.211.104 (talk) 07:33, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, it was done without discussion with other editors and by someone with no history of editing related articles, so I have changed it back. -- Chuq (talk) 11:37, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

- Jan 25 '08 - and its still Telstra..
- I think there may have been a name change, check out these links http://www.google.com.au/search?q=Stadium+Australia&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a . Cheers_Ad@m.J.W.C. (talk) 12:07, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Infobox suggestion
editI'm not getting much of a response at Template talk:Infobox Stadium so I'll ask here - what do people think of the sample tenants section in the layout displayed at: Template_talk:Infobox_Stadium#New_.27tenants.27_format? (please reply on that page to keep discussion in the one place) -- Chuq (talk) 08:30, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Tenants
editWhat exactly constitutes a "tenant". I believe that word suggests at the very least, some kind of regularly scheduled matches at the stadium. Sydney FC wouldn't qualify for that, while the Wanderers have never played a single game there, which makes me wonder why they've been included? Macktheknifeau (talk) 08:21, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
what is the official current name of this stadium?
editGood question. What we need is a website where someone who knows can write an article, put the answer in the first sentence, a couple of times on the right sidebar, and then in a paragraph later on. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.173.14.37 (talk) 02:55, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- It seems to be Stadium Australia, judging from the official website.[1] Also: "ANZ Stadium is operated by the Stadium Australia Group (SAG), comprising Stadium Australia Trust (SAT) and Stadium Australia Management Limited (SAM), under the terms of a Lease from the Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA)." Stadium name
editWhy do you keep changing the name of the stadium it’s so confusing I wish that you could find a name for it and keep it not change it anymore 203.129.18.225 (talk) 11:08, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
- I think you would have to ask the New South Wales Government/Premier that question because they name most stadiums based on sponsorships; this is not exclusive to New South Wales, Perth does it as well for example Optus Stadium was named what it is now because of sponsorship.[1][2]

- ^ "Accor Stadium". Austadiums. Archived from the original on 2 November 2023. Retrieved 2 November 2023.
The venue opened as Stadium Australia in 1999, before it became Telstra Stadium in 2002 following its first naming-rights agreement. The ANZ Bank purchased the rights in an initial seven-year deal which was later extended, with the venue known as ANZ Stadium from January 1, 2008. It reverted back to its non-commercial name of Stadium Australia in December 2020 following the end of that partnership. Then as of 26 November 2021, the venue became Accor Stadium following a new seven-year deal with the global hotel chain.
Stadium capacity and biggest attendance
editHow can the biggest attendance be higher than the stadium capacity? Are the concerts doing something special to allow more people in than the sports events (like using the playing area for spectators too)? If so, this should be clarified in the article, as it's odd to see a capacity of 82,500 followed by a biggest attendance of 85,000. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:20, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
