"belongs to the family" and "has been placed in the family"
editThe record of bird taxonomy is a record of continual revisions and even reversals, and this pattern seems certain to continue as more and more DNA is sequenced and other studies are done. I don't think we should say that a species "belongs to" or "is in" a higher taxon unless there's a decades-long consensus.
