Social Recommender Systems
editAs a possible improvement to the article, I am planning to add social filtering section. In this section, I will explain how users utilize social media to deal with information overload, based on the following paper: “Social recommender systems”. Specifically, I will add descriptions for content and people recommendations on social media platforms, and examples in some key application domains like microblogging, job, question asking and answering etc. I am also planning to add some open issues and challenges in social recommender systems. Below the bibliographic information of the papers which I am planning to use:
Guy, Ido. "Social recommender systems." In Recommender Systems Handbook, pp. 511-543. Springer US, 2015.
Explaining the benefits and drawbacks of making people's actions public
editBased on the article "Informing and performing: investigating how mediated sociality becomes visible" from Xianghua Ding et. al., published in Journal of Personal and Ubiquitous Computing (2012), I am planning to add three sections to this article: "Supporting theories" (or "Theoretical Background") , "Benefits" (or "Advantages") and Drawbacks (or "Disadvantages) or "Challenges" (for not being so negative). The article present a theory which can be cited as one of the theoretical works that support the existence of social information processing in modern systems. This theory is called: Goffman’s performance framework.
Additionally, the article presents 3 specific success cases that show the benefits that real systems which provide social information access can report to users, which can be summarized in a "Benefits" section. Additionally, it states some problems that arise from making public the actions performed by the users (e.g. Privacy issues), which can be summarized in a "Drawbacks" or "Challenges" sections within the Wikipedia page.

Removal of the "Neologism" marker
editI removed the Neologism marker after leaving comments on Rich_Farmbrough's talk page. -- RussAbbott (talk) 03:07, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Garbage dump is another example of what might appear to be a "neologism" that is allowed as a Wikipedia page. (It redirects to Landfill, which doesn't really seem right to me. But that's besides the point.) -- RussAbbott (talk) 03:13, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
In fact, Garbage dump has waste treatment and waste disposal on its page, apparently without objection. Easily accessible from there is landfill gas. These lead to Hazardous waste, which includes radioactive waste, medical waste, and occupational exposure. It's a short jump to Tobacco smoking. -- RussAbbott (talk) 03:14, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Correction of the "Other uses" header
editThe "Other uses" header of this article said the following:
Reading the article on Social information processing theory, one can see that this heading misrepresents the latter article. I therefore changed the heading to the following:
-- Slatteryz (talk) 03:47, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
- Further investigation reveals that there does indeed exist yet another meaning of "social information processing" which has to do with cognitive development. It there seems necessary to add a third article, which could be called [Social Information Processing (Cognition)]. In this case, the header should become:
Peer review 2019 - Social Information Processing
editI think previous editors of this page have already done a good job transitioning -- every paragraph is closely related and fluently. Therefore my advice will focus on the structure and the content.
Structure: More sections can be added here, such as the "history" development","application", "limitations" or "critique". Content:
I think the section of the two key concepts, social recommendation system and social awareness, does not provide further explanation of their role and correlation with the social information processing theory. There is a "see also" section in the articles, which are actually cases and application of this theory.I think there should be a independent sections of "application" and illustrate these examples.
