Talk:Sengkang New Town

Latest comment: 18 years ago by Fernvale

Uh...it appears that Sengkang New Town redirects to this page. However, I feel they should be separate, especially considering that Ang Mo Kio New Town and Ang Mo Kio are two separate entities, and we want to avoid confusion and redundancy. Also, check out the Wikipedia articles about the MRT, we have a lot of predocumented information already, so it'd help if you'd wikify such links. Also, Sengkang isn't merely a town, or a housing estate or a neighbourhood, seeing how it has its own urban development classification under the specification of the Urban Redevelopment Authority. Hence this article needs to be written in a new direction, good material so far, but its not merely just a housing estate! -- Natalinasmpf 07:09, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments!

I acknowledge that Sengkang, as a urban planning area (UPA), is different in concept from Sengkang New Town, comprising only the HDB residential estate. A check with URA's planning boundaries reveals that the Sengkang UPA covers the entire Sengkang New Town (including Buangkok) and parts of the rural areas to the west of Jalan Kayu (on which there will be little, if any, housing development in the long term) and a small strip of land to the east of Sungei Serangoon.

I see your point of keeping separate the concepts of Sengkang, as a UPA, and Sengkang New Town, the purely HDB town component. Seeing that the original information on Sengkang New Town wanting, my original objective has been to redefine this article so that it can be as definitive as possible, if ever possible. Of course, I have not made the differentiation between Sengkang and Sengkang New Town precisely clear, which you have already done so in the introduction.

Your assistance and suggestions to further improve this article are greatly appreciated.

Suggestion to merge this article with Sengkang because they are pretty much the same thing. A bit confusing with the New Town alias, considered expanding Sengkang instead.
