Notability
editIn a day and age when a person can get world-wide news coverage for throwing a tantrum over Chicken McNuggets I find it sad that Stephanie Roper's murder can possibly lack "notability." Does "notability" only apply to events that occured in the digital age? Stephanie Roper's murder dominated news in the DC metro area for months. Perhaps more "notably" it served as a catalyst for the fledgling victims' rights/assistance movement, led passionately and prudently by Stephanie's mother, as well as to legislation that toughened criminal penalties. There have been few more "notable" murders in the DC metro area.
I'm afraid that for "links" one would have to search the physical archives of the Washington Post or of the local television stations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cossackathon (talk • contribs) 18:48, 10 August 2010
- A murder is always a horrible tragedy, but Wikipedia simply cannot list every single murder that happened everywhere. We need to have some criteria for inclusion. I'm sorry. DS (talk) 15:12, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
I went to school with Stephanie, and when her disappearance hit the papers, I followed it on a daily basis. In fact, it was one of the reasons why I became a Prince George's County Police Officer. I remember it being stated in the paper that the reason why these guys were caught was because one or both of them asked someone in a bar how to get rid of a body. I also remember reading that the reason why Stephanie's car was pulled off the road was because she had a flat tire. Floral Park Road is still, to my knowledge, an old country road with no shoulders. I often think that if something as simple as cellphones had been around, Stephanie would be alive today. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.111.13.121 (talk) 05:38, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
