Gags Missed in Black and White Paragraph

I have moved the following paragraph from the article here to the talk page:

• The lack of colour hides one or two of the original sight gags - in the first few minutes, for example, there is a scene taken from a holiday bus, showing three groups of holiday makers in succession. In black and white, this is not unusual, and appears as a scene-setting sequence. In the original colour master, it can be seen that the holiday makers' sun tans get progressively lighter as the bus gets closer to the hotel.

I have just rewatched the film and the scenes in the holiday bus are as follows

1. Passengers crowding their way onto the bus.
2. A childs head pops up between the spokes of the steering wheel as the driver turns forward.
3. Brief scene of children looking out the window at people on the beach.
4. Bus driver handing down the suitcase of the pretty blond girl.

As with most of Tati's films there are many possibilities for the confusion over this. Perhaps the person who made this entry saw a special showing of the color footage where the material mentioned was included. Or at least they read about it in a film journal, magazine or book. But the film that is currently available does not include the aforementioned action. I am not trying to rain on anyone's parade and if you have more info about this situation please feel free to add it and to put this paragraph back on the main page. I would add one other thing if any of you wikipedia editors have this footage available please double check it because it would make more sense if the tans got progressivly darker as the get closer to the seaside resort (although the scenes as described might be the point of Tati's joke). This is an extraordinarily fun film to view and I hope that anyone who comes to this article who hasn't seen the film will search it out.User:MarnetteD | Talk 23:41, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

I would have added a citation required tag or similar with a query like this. Assume good faith etc. I will look through (and cite if appropriate) the essay in the DVD I have which is quite detailed. But moving to talk is fine too - clearly evidence is needed. Justinc 01:16, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

I seriously doubt that Tati would have staged that gag if he knew that the film would come out black-and-white. Besides, the funeral gag wouldn'tve worked in colour. Brutannica 22:03, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Narrative

"It does not have a conventional narrative, being instead a series of largely visual humorous episodes." - However formulated, the film has a plot, the arrival of the holiday crowd, Hulot's extra arrival, the hotel routines, the girl across the street, the party, the trecking team, the cemetary events. It is largely visual too. It's the article that needs narrative, IMO. Hoverfish 21:12, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Les Vacances de M. Hulot → Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot – The US uses the English "holiday" title but in the rest of the English-speaking world (and in France, apparently), the French title with the full "Monsieur"[1][2] is the WP:COMMONNAME. Google Books[3][4] and Google[5][6] reflect this clearly. — Film Fan 22:08, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
