editWhile organising the page according to the century of birth (or failing that, century in which a notable work was created), I couldn't find any information on the following people. If you know of them, don't hesitate to add them again. - snoyes 17:43, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- Frederick DeWitt - a search on google for "Frederick DeWitt Cartography" turns up a "Simeon DeWitt"
- Zacharias Heym - google search turns up only wikipedia clone sites
Adding names
editPreferably add persons with already created articles, but red-linked articles are allowed. Do not add people with an external link to their homepage. Thanks, feydey 14:09, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
Newspaper articles that state the person in reference is a cartographer should be included in this list. Wikiwhatnot 21:21. 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Consistency
editWe have a lot of non-overlap between this article page and the category cartographers (sorted by nationality mostly. Any thoughts how to fix this? is there a bot solution?--Natcase 12:22, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Cartography
editThe term CARTOGRAPHER means map maker and CARTOGRAPHY is map making. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.109.121.97 (talk) 11:17, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
Split the section 'Before 1400'
editThe section Before 1400 has 17 entries currently. About 7 entries are for cartographers who lived in the BCs. Therefore, I propose to split this section into 3 sections (or sub-sections):
- BCE
- Before 1000 AD
- 1000 - 1400 AD
I request valuable opinions from informed Wikipedians. Sahrudayan (talk) 02:57, 8 December 2017 (UTC)
Kartograph Herzog
editThere was a German Cartographer called Herzog, who made some of the maps for the North Sea war theatre of First World War. These were published in the series "Der Krieg zur See 1914-1918 - Der Krieg in der Nordsee" (7 Volumes). In Volume I he and Ludwig von der Vecht (1854-1919) are named as the cartographers. Maybe since von der Vecht died during the work, Herzog took over the project. In the later volumes he is referred as "Vermessungsdirigent". Do you have any informations about him? (Surname, date of birth and dead, or maybe more)--Andreas (talk) 23:28, 12 December 2020 (UTC)
