• Change the short description from "Chinese politician" to "Chinese politician (1917–2019)"
• The lead is pretty long. Suggesting to trim it to 2 paragraphs.
• Chinese politician, historian — don't link these general terms
• By 1958, he had become the vice-minister of the Ministry of Water Resources, the youngest vice-minister in — repetition of 'vice-minister'
• People's Republic of China (both in the lead and the prose) — why not just China?
• to the attention of Mao Zedong — specify the position of Mao then
• his unwillingness to give preference to the children of influential party members cost him his position — "cost him his position" should be rephrased.
• in Pingjiang County, Hunan Province in — Missing MOS:GEOCOMMA
• in the late 1930s - upon his — should be em-dash (or en-dash, maybe)
