Please correct information about Kurmi caste origin
Latest comment: 8 months ago7 comments4 people in discussion
I can see that the owner of this article has given several opinion of late-19th century theories of the etymology of Kurmi. i am surprised that you have given opinion of people place here who are actually not from Kurmi caste itself. If you are writing about origin about a caste origin then you should give opinion of people from caste itself a place.
People from this caste has always considered themselves as a martial race i.e Kshatriya and simultaneously agriculture was also their occupation. If you check in human history when the word kurmi first appeared the you will find that in rigveda as "Tuvi kūrmi"(तुविकूर्मि):—[=tuvi-kūrmi] [from tuvi] meaning powerful in working (Indra), [Ṛg-veda iii, vi, viii.]. Please go and read and make edits if you have little logic left in your brain.I don't know what type of research you have done but in several books like for an example "Martial Races of Undivided India : Vidya Prakash Tyagi"(which you have mentioned in your own wiki page) Kurmi has been described as a martial race i.e they are Kshatriya, and I do not see you have put that information in the page. I can see clear bias and promotion of bullying of a caste like for an example you have mentioned kurmis as a "non-elite tiller caste". Please visit india and see the conditions by your own eye. I hope you have an eye and a brain. ArvindKumar23 (talk) 21:19, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
Wikipedia is not interested in who you are, where you are from, what race/religion/community/caste you are, what you "know", or even what you have found out. Wikipedia is only interested in what has already been published in reliable, independent sources published by a body with a reputation for fact-checking - No blogs, no self-published sources, no bodies with a conflict of interest, no caste-promotional sites. These sources must be properly cited in order to support any information added to, or changed in our pages, so the information can be verified as true in the future. The responsibility for providing citations is solely on whoever adds or changes any information, to provide references from reliable sources that support those additions or changes. We are not interested in meaningless, self aggrandisement, phrases such as "martial race". - Arjayay (talk) 21:32, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
Hi Sir,
May I know if i can give information from books to back my claims.
I agree that this is not a caste-promotional sites but this is also not a caste bullying site as well. Why have you written Kurmi are "non-elite tiller caste".
Please remove that and make it as a chief agriculture caste of India.
Regarding other information I will give you references from books written by several scholars. Let me know if you will consider them.
1. Introduction Please add: The Kurmi claim that they are the direct descendants of the famous Suryavanshi Kshatriya dynasties of Lord Rama and one of the sects of Hindus in India. Kurmis are known as chief agricultural caste of India. Kurmi and their descendants residing all over the world and especially India are compassionate, industrious and very resourceful people.
2. Origin/etymology : Kurmis derive their name from the word "Kurma" occurring in the Rigveda and Shatapath Brahman and meaning 'Lord, Master ,Powerful,' etc.
Referrences:
1. The castes and tribes of H.E.H. the Nizam's dominions, Volume I Page number 370.
3. History of Kunbi/Kurmi caste((Ref:Vidya Pakash Tyagi,Martial Races of Undivided India,page no.265)
Please verify these references, If possible buy these books and read it to improve your knowledge of castes and tribes of india. Please edit this article and all these information there. I assume that you are an unbiased person and you will do the suggested changes.
I have given references from books. If books written by scholars are not good and relaible source of information then May i know what is a relaible source of information?
Then what are you're sources? Based on which you have mentioned kurmis as a non elite tiller caste. This proves your hypocrisy that you are doing this on purpose we're providing evidences from history kindly use your brain 49.37.64.112 (talk) 13:39, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
