Indian ice cream (Alaska) → Alaskan ice cream – Broader, less clunky term that could encompass two stubs that are currently arbitrarily separated (the recipe has many variations region-to-region in Alaska). Currently Alaskan ice cream is a disambigution page with only two links, Indian ice cream (Alaska) and Akutaq, both of which are similar berry-and-animal-fat desserts. There is proposal to merge Akutaq into Indian ice cream (Alaska) (currently has two supports and no opposition after six weeks; however, Akutaq is made by Yupiit and Inuit, who are not American Indian peoples, so the term Indian ice cream would be a misnomer. The term Alaskan ice cream covers both forms of this dessert in an accurate and neutral manner. Yuchitown (talk) 20:15, 26 July 2020 (UTC)—Relisting. —usernamekiran (talk) 10:30, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
- Merge the disambiguated articles first, or at the same time. This proposal is incomplete in not mentioning/alerting both. Dicklyon (talk) 01:39, 27 July 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, I support the merge proposal, which is to merge Akutaq into this article; however, that doesn't solve the problem of this article's current name, so proposed the name change here. Yuchitown (talk) 04:06, 27 July 2020 (UTC)Yuchitown
- At WP:RM you can see that your proposal is listed as probably malformed or incomplete, since it didn't say what to do with the target Alaskan ice cream, which is currently occupied by a disambig page. I was looking at those listings when I got here. So address that more specifically, and maybe this can move forward. Dicklyon (talk) 01:25, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
- Done, and added the more thorough explanation of the situation above as well. Yuchitown (talk) 15:24, 28 July 2020 (UTC)Yuchitown

- Merge Akutaq and Indian ice cream (Alaska) to Alaskan ice cream. They are clearly either the same thing or very closely related, both geographically and culturally; and share the common distinctive feature of sometimes including animal products, notably fish, which differentiates them from Indian ice cream (Canada). "Alaskan ice cream" is given as a WP:COMMONNAME in both articles, and strikes me as a good descriptive title. Redirect the now-blanked source articles to that target. - Merge and move as proposed Red Slash 22:45, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
- Merge and move. Clearly the best option here for the reasons articulated in the nomination.--Cúchullain t/c 20:22, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
- Merge and move, this indeed seems like the best way to resolve the issues of Akutaq being the name of only one variety but "Indian ice cream" not necessarily being an accurate description name for some varieties, since "Alaskan ice cream" seems to be attested as a name for both. -sche (talk) 09:15, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

Inuit-Yupik?
editI realize file space is not exactly at a premium, but that's an awkward term for something we already have a shorter, more concise, and well-known term for. They're collectively known as Eskimos. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:449:4581:6920:11C0:54A9:5578:47FC (talk) 05:46, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
