CC of response to User:SoWhy

edit

Hi. To answer your question: I removed it because the character is neither a cast-member nor a recurring guest, and we don't list every guest star who ever appeared on every series.

And this particular guest star was listed only because a WP:COI linksapmmer was going through Wikipedia adding links to his own webpage. I hope you'll respond, and let me know if there's a reason we're singling out this own guest star out of the dozens who have appeared on the show. --Tenebrae (talk) 17:25, 13 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I think SoWhy's question on your talk page[1] was reasonable, and I think you may have misunderstood why he asked it. The content that was initially added was this, which I cleaned up a few hours later when I discovered it.[2] Twenty hours later an IP reformatted the content inexplicably, moving two of the "guest cast" into the "recurring cast" section and adding unsourced names.[3] Your subsequent removal of the "guest cast" section, which included the citation,[4] looked to be a response to the IP, not the editor who originally added the content, and "rvt linkspammer" didn't seem to make a lot of sense. AnomieBOT subsequently restored the citation that you deleted,[5] so by the time I saw the article, it seemed that you had made a half-arsed attempt to revert the IP, which is why I restored the article to the "pre-IP" version.[6] I imagine SoWhy was just as confused as I, which is probably why he posted his question. The only person who appeared to be singling out anyone was you, as you only removed one of the three actors who were originally added. --AussieLegend (talk) 18:16, 13 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
AussieLegend is correct. From the edit alone there is no indication that this is a case of linkspam. Also, it's not about the guest star, since the link also served to verify two recurring characters. Regards SoWhy 20:13, 13 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
I can see why there's confusion, but that's not how it went. The actor I removed here was the only actor in a list headed "Guest stars". Not Cast, not Recurring, just Guest stars. Secondly, the only cite for it was BreakingNewsBuzz.com, which is a non-notable, non-RS site. Obviously it wouldn't look like linkspam unless you had also looked at all the other pages where the same editor was adding links to BreakingNewsBuzz.com — his own site, and one so marginal it was speedily deleted. So, yes, it was linkspam — and as far as I can tell, that linkspam cite remains removed, so I'm not quite sure what the problem, if any, is? Confusedly yours, Tenebrae (talk) 23:26, 13 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

December 17 episodes

edit

There have been changes today to episodes 11 & 12 (again), but this time the titles have been changed based on spoilertv, which is not generally regarded as a reliable source. However, the episode titles are supported by TV Guide, which is reliable, so I've changed the references for these episodes to TV Guide (the references were incomplete anyway!). BUT, both MSN and Zap2it still show these episodes as "The Robin" and "The Silence of the Jinx", albeit in different orders, so I'm not sure what the episode titles really are. --AussieLegend () 05:07, 3 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Short description of episodes

edit

These are 1:1 copies of their sources. I don't want to be too harsh, but the one who helps us all by searching them, citing them and copying&pasting them should also take the time to rewrite them a bit.--JakobvS (talk) 10:00, 26 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

The copyvio has been deleted. --AussieLegend () 11:10, 26 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Good work. Some people are just too blind to even read the hidden comment. --Eaglestorm (talk) 12:33, 26 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. Meggieh69 (talk) 18:03, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Teasers in episode summaries

edit

Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a fansite, and we treat content encyclopaedically. This means including relevant plot points in episode summaries and not hiding what some may consider to be spoilers. In fact this is supported by WP:TVPLOT which says, "Per Wikipedia's content disclaimer and guideline on spoilers, all of the episode's important events should be outlined without censoring details considered spoilers, and without using disclaimers or warnings in the article. In short, Wikipedia contains spoilers; please respect this policy." For some reason, Eaglestorm seems intent on turning the episode summary for "Ring Up!" into a teaser, effectively "censoring details considered spoilers".[7][8][9] I don't understand his reasoning, as his edit summaries don't make it clear, so I have asked him to discuss them.[10] Unfortunately, his response was to edit-war, leaving an edit summary that makes no sense.[11] I have again asked him to discuss his edits.[12] I've also opened at discussion at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Television#Teasers. --AussieLegend () 14:37, 10 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I agree. Eaglestorm does a lot of editing on various HIMYM pages. Those contributions are pretty much always good faith contributions and almost always improvements to the articles, so Eaglestorm's stance on this particular edit is a bit puzzling. I think the edit summary comment about "ganging up on behalf of troll editor" might help explain it. It seems that Eaglestorm regards Meggieh69 as a troll and so opposes this edit simply because Meggieh69 supports it. So you (Aussie Legend) and I are the "gang" who has apparently joined up with a "troll".
But a check of the edit history will show that I was the editor who initially changed the text to specify that the girl is Barney's half-sister, not Meggieh69([13]). That information was removed a day later by a different editor saying "removing spoiler"([14]). I reverted that edit restoring the text. It was a week later when Meggieh69 changed wording in that summary from "sleep with her" to "continue seeing her" ([15]) that Eaglestorm not only reverted that edit, but also removed the reference to Barney's half-sister. Meggieh69 reverted that and then we were off to the races.
The bottom line is that mentioning that the girl is Barney's half-sister in the summary is both legitimate and informative as a summary should be. That language clearly should stand. 99.192.89.214 (talk) 18:29, 10 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for that summary of events. That makes things much clearer. Calling other editors trolls is uncivil and inappropriate. A look at the article's history after that first edit ([16]) shows that several editors have edited the summary and the only two who oppose it are the IP who inappropriately removed the spoiler, and Eaglestorm. --AussieLegend () 01:25, 11 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

New box art

edit

Hi,

I just wanted to point out the official box art for season 8. If an appropriate user could upload and edit the current photo, that would be great.

Box art is here:
