Cortes was not arrested in 1980, if so that did not lead to conviction. he was not one of the Evanston 11. He was not convicted of sedition, but of seditious conspiracy. His conviction did not state that he tried to overthrow the government of United States in Puerto Rico. Seditious conspiracy involves levying war against the government of the United States. All his actions however were in the mainland, and not in Puerto Rico. I am not sure if he was placed in isolation due to his association with multiple breakout attempts.I doubt the validity of any statement that claims it was solely for political purposes.Rococo1700 (talk) 03:14, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
- Sedition is not a charge per se, but an act; e.g., the American South executed sedition from the rest of the US, but the FALN only conspired to become separated. Seditious conspiracy refers to the planning the actions intended to achieve the sedition. When "sedition" is cited by itself in any source regarding FALN members, it should be interpreted as a shorthand for "seditious conspiracy" since, obviously, Puerto Rico never separated from the US. As to the 1980 arrest date, what makes you say he was arrested in a different year? Mercy11 (talk) 02:21, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
