Buddhist influences on early Christianity

edit

It is well known that knowledge about Buddhism was already present in pre-Christian Roman and Greek world. However evil Christian so-called historians would deny any influence on Christianity because they want to deny that Christianity was hotch-potch of various pre-dating religions including religions from as far away land as India. All the stories in Christian doctrines are nothing but redesigned copies of earlier religions. Buddha's mother saw Bodhisattva entering her womb and in turn she giving virgin birth to the Buddha. This was stolen by early Christian writers to invent a same figure of their own. While there may be some fundamental differences between Jesus-ism and Buddhism like so-called crucifixion of Jesus and importance of God but what about other not so central teachings of both the religions. The fact is Buddhist thought greatly influenced early Christian writers but because any land west of India is full of evil minds (proved by existence of modern day secret societies) so they created their own imaginary stories to push their world domination agenda. (Islam also came out of such evil mind) So while many of the teachings of Buddhism looked appealing to them but Buddhist doctrine of non-theism was not so useful for their agenda. So they removed that part and retained other ones so as to make it look like it is original. So shameful. In fact there is no evidence for existence of Jesus and all so-called evidence comes from evil and biased Christian historians whose very credibility is in doubt.

You may not be aware of Christian history but now that the Catholic Church can no longer burn 'heretics' at the stake many Christians have dared to question those 'historical rewrites' that are being actively defended by Catholic partisans even on this board. They will work hard to present a monolithic view of Christians to the outside world, so please do not make the job of Christians who are fighting that dogma any harder. There are plenty of Christian groups who welcome Buddhist thought and recognize how it may have influenced Christ and see no problem with that theologically or otherwise. 24.176.43.70 (talk) 13:01, 4 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Rewrite

edit

This article needs to be re-written. It currently is written as a Buddhism vs Christianity article with little discussion of actual influence or areas of similarity. I will make a rewrite of the lead in the next week or so. Any other editors willing to add content or constructive feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I intend to write the lead starting with similarities and the items that these two religions share that are not common throughout all religions. I am wide open to suggestions for improvement. Lipsquid (talk) 02:17, 12 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Note that the lede has to summarise the contents of the article. Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section: "The lead should stand on its own as a concise overview of the article's topic. It should identify the topic, establish context, explain why the topic is notable, and summarize the most important points, including any prominent controversies."

The lede is currently problematic because it is not particularly connected to the text. The text focuses on the following areas, that could also be expanded:

  • "Origins and early contacts". Basically the origins of both religions and their history of contacts.
  • "Similarities" The arguments about similarities.
  • "Differences" The arguments about differences.
  • "Buddhist influence on Christianity". Arguments about developments in Christianity which derive from Buddhism.
  • "Christian influence on Buddhism". Arguments about developments in Buddhism which derive from Christianity.
  • "Contemporary Buddhist-Christian exchange". The ongoing attempts at convergence of the two religions and their rejection by various religious authorities. Dimadick (talk) 17:43, 13 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much for the feedback, I guess this needs to go in my sandbox for a rewrite section by section. I agree the article is much too "rejection" focused when some similarities are obvious and there is documented historical cultural exchange between India, the Middle East and Eastern Europe in the pre-Christian period. The Golden Boat, Buddha's Prophecy of Jesus

edit

Today I came across the idea that Buddha prophesied the coming of Jesus. I'm no expert and doubt the sources meets WP standards, but if it's legit, it seems like it should be part of this article. The original source seems to be an excerpt published by a Thai website 2003 from District Headman – the Religious Encyclopedia Volume 23, stored at Wat PhraSing. @Akvadrako:, I don't think these sources are reliable enough, especially not for an EXTRAORDINARY claim like this.--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 00:07, 11 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
