Tornado Emergencies
editI think it might be relevant to mention in this article a few of the Tornado Emergencies that have recently been issued by the National Weather Service. If any editor here thinks that it would be helpful, I have collected a few sources which could be used, and there are also a few sources at List of United States tornado emergencies, an article I have spent much time at lately. It might be best to wait a day or two first, though. Dustin (talk) 00:50, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
gustnado
editwhy is a gustnado on the list of the tornadoes list, gustnado aren't tornadoes so it should be removed, unless it was mistaken and was supercell tornado or landspout then it should stay. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.115.56.99 (talk) 17:15, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- We are still on preliminary reports for the most part. If it is found to be a gustnado as reported, then it will likely not be included in the final total. TornadoLGS (talk) 17:26, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
Out of synch numbers
edit2+3+6+5+1 does not equal 21 or 26 - both of which totals the article currently claims. 75.41.109.190 (talk) 03:47, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
- This is because a number of tornadoes have been confirmed but not yet rated. TornadoLGS (talk) 03:55, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
Edits pending ITN
editIn conjunction with the [[WP:ITN] nomination of this article, I have
1) hidden sections tagged for future expansion--orange tags are deprectaed on ITN noms, although I think the issue is largely arbitrary--at least the aesthetics are better. 2) put the various summaries in full sentence rather than headline form to conform to the three full prose paragraph requirement, and 3) split the list of tornadoes up by date for easier future editing.
μηδείς (talk) 03:55, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
- I do have one note to make on some of the edits you have made to the list. The manner in which the deaths have been reformatted breaks from the standard format used for tornado lists. I think that listing injuries and deaths in separate columns is not beneficial to this article. The nine to ten columns generally used on these tables is plenty. The latest changes tot he article give the tables too many columns. TornadoLGS (talk) 04:20, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
- The column reformatting made to the list were my doing. It's more of a temporary thing, as I see it, as there will be an uptick in viewership and those two statistics are among the most sought-after pieces of information by people. It'll help them find what they want faster. When things settle down, we can reformat it to the proper setting to match the one that was determined last year. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 04:24, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
- I have no strong opinion on this, User:TornadoLGS, so long as full prose sentence form is maintained. The article is nominated for the front page and will not be posted with a large number of sentence fragments. I did not add the separate fatality column myself, but the summary sections should not have "14 dead." as the first sentence. I suggest the regulars work out how to format it over the long term according to standard practice, but that we not go back to a headlinese prose style while the article appears on the front page.
- By the way, editors interested in the front page nomination are invited to comment on it here: https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:In_the_news/Candidates#.5BReady.5D_April_27.E2.80.9328.2C_2014_tornado_outbreak. μηδείς (talk) 04:30, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you for that Cyclonebiskit. At the very least, I agree that information on the death toll should be formatted so that it can be found at a glance. TornadoLGS (talk) 04:43, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
Non-tornado death
editThis article [1] mentions another non-tornado death (tree vs. car) and a still missing child in a previous tornado. 75.41.109.190 (talk) 16:38, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
where
edit"Eastern" U.S. is not exactly a very good descriptor: central and southern/southeastern would be much better. Nebraska and Oklahoma hardly qualify as eastern.211.225.33.104 (talk) 07:46, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
related?
editThis will be a big event if it turns out to have been related: [2] Rmhermen (talk) 14:59, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
Updated tornadoes
editThere are a bunch of new tornadoes in the NWS Huntsville, Birmingham, and Jackson CWAs from this outbreak that need to be added. Some of the tornadoes in Mississippi (Hinds, Rankin, Scott Counties) were found to have been part of one long-tracked EF3 tornado. Someone needs to keep track of the changes and start correcting the listings/event descriptions in the table. CapeVerdeWave (talk) 15:58, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
"brief" full sentences
editFirst, entities like tornadoes or people cannot be brief, they can be short-lived. Periods of time are brief.
Second, we need to use full sentences in the prose sections of the article. μηδείς (talk) 20:13, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- I was under the impression that tornadoes were referred to as brief as they are considered events for such purposes as duration. It would be along the same lines as saying "a brief conversation" or "a brief skirmish." TornadoLGS (talk) 20:24, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
section on MS EF-4 that killed 10
editMaybe the article is still under construction, but if not, it makes little sense to have an article on the TN tornado that killed 2 and was an EF-3 or the Baxter Springs, KS tornadoes if there isn't one for the second most significant tornado of the outbreak outside of the Mayflower/Vilonia tornado. In my opinion, neither of the other two tornadoes really deserve sections if you consider what tornadoes have garnered sections in past articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.50.95.2 (talk) 21:19, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
- Currently waiting on another editor to write up that section :) We're definitely including it with its own section. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 21:24, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

Mm, not cm
editRain is commonly measured in mm. The Infobox should say that. Hail commonly uses cm. I know it’s a discrepancy but that’s how it should be. 144.121.66.230 (talk) 16:16, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
