Replaced the Vice link with Vice Youtube
editWait, what? Promotional! What do you even mean, Nihonjoe
The Vice link had no relocation of the original article on it's site, neither did Archive.org nor Archive.is have functional embedded video, so I went straight to the original Vice link to YouTube.
- So this was a repair to extant link
- Also, the video is a documentary of a Suicide Prevention associate walking a tour-of-duty and discussing, in English, what is found along the way. Did you even review the film?

- @WurmWoode: Sorry, just saw this now. Please explain as I have no idea what you mean. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 23:53, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
- Point #1— attempting to repair the dead link— the original link was to a video that was no longer available, and that I could not find as merely being relocated on the original site, and not available on an archive of the original link— but WAS available on Vice's YouTube videos.
- Point #2— the reference to it being promotional is NOT true as the video is obviously a documentary, as I reviewed and described it above. WurmWoodeT 20:57, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
- Having it on Wikipedia is promotional, regardless of whether it's a documentary or not. There's no valid reason to link to a specific YouTube video in the external links. That's not what they (the external links) are for. Go read WP:EL for more guidance on this, if you wish. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 22:13, 5 January 2018 (UTC)

Logan Paul controversy - Deletion suggestion
editCan we not reference the Logan Paul video fiasco. ITs not germain to this location or this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Deelite310 (talk • contribs) 23:06, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
- Depending on the media coverage, it may very well be worth mentioning. However, it should have no more than a sentence or two at most. Anything else can be added to the Logan Paul article. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 23:41, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
- In terms of media coverage, I'd be looking for this incident to be mentioned in reliable sources with a primary focus on Aokigahara, not Paul. - Ryk72 'c.s.n.s.' 23:52, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Clearly & considerably WP:UNDUE. Include at Logan Paul. - Ryk72 'c.s.n.s.' 23:50, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
- I've trimmed the mention down a bit. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 23:52, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
- Appreciated. Yet not necessarily convinced that even that much is not too much. Will consider. - Ryk72 'c.s.n.s.' 23:57, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
- I wanted enough there to give context. You're welcome to trim it down further if you can find a way to do it without losing context. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 00:02, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

- I don't think Logan Paul uploading a video is relevant to this article. I get that he's famous and all, but does it really need to be included? —General534 (talk) 03:18, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
- It received a lot of media coverage, so it deserves a small mention. I think the current mention is sufficient, though Ryk72 may trim it even more, based on his comments. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 07:05, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
- Considering the amount of media coverage from many major news sites, I think it's worth at least a 2-3 sentence mention on the page (perhaps in a different section in the future though?) Masterfireheart (talk) 12:09, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

As some random guy who doesn't edit wikipedia articles and only reads them I can assure you that youtube drama is way beneath an educational article. This will blow over by next week, and the relevancy Logan Paul has to Aokigahara will fade. I know if I were trying to learn more about Japanese culture or history and came upon this article why would I want to see Logan Paul? 2605:6001:E81E:5200:BD6A:8673:1201:505C (talk) 19:08, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

Add "He has since apologized for the incident" after "In January 2018, American YouTube vlogger, Logan Paul received criticism for a vlog showing the reactions of Paul and three friends upon discovering the corpse of a man who had hung himself in Aokigahara. The video was removed less than a day after it was uploaded." 165.255.149.194 (talk) 08:15, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
That has nothing to do with the location. The current mention is sufficient. 144.138.60.42 (talk) 10:38, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

Can a Japanese speaker please upload audio of how to say the name?
editI know there are other places to look up pronunciations of historic Japanese landmarks - in fact, I already did watch the pronunciation on Youtube. For the completeness of Wikipedia, can someone please record themself saying "Aokigahara" and then upload it? There are people on Wikipedia eager to help you record and make an .oga file and get it posted. You can even message me, but I suggest clicking "Community portal" on the left menu for ultra-fast help. Thanks. Fluoborate (talk) 20:57, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

Please add at the end of the lead "The forest became known around the world in after Logan Paul visited and the subsequent controversy after he apologized in his YouTube video titled "So Sorry." after a dead body was filmed. Most of the world of unaware of this forest before Logan Paul brought attention to it." 2600:8804:1980:CF20:CD27:382F:72C3:984B (talk) 08:18, 10 December 2018 (UTC)

- Jonesey95, here are some references[1] [2] Most of the world was not aware of this forest before Logan Paul's near-career killing stunt. 2600:8804:1980:CF20:B143:4EB7:EDA8:D829 (talk) 09:42, 14 December 2018 (UTC)
- Neither source mentions this forest by name. If there are better sources, post them here. We can put a short note in the "in popular culture" section. – Jonesey95 (talk) 11:35, 14 December 2018 (UTC)
- I would be opposed to such a change, as it would give WP:UNDUE weight to a single incident (note that it is mentioned in the subarticle). Wikipedia is not beholden to the obsessions of Youtube viewers, and it's blatantly ignorant to claim the world didn't known of the forest before he made a video about it. If the IP editor manages to find any references, they're also going to need to establish consensus for the change. Opencooper (talk) 01:04, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

I request a removal of the claim that ubasute was practiced at Aokigahara. In the reference material (a podcast), the non-Japanese host makes a claim that "ubasute-yama" was practiced at the site, without providing reference or evidence. "Ubasute-yama" literally means "Mt. Ubasute": the host's claim doesn't even make sense in Japanese.
Wikipedia's own ubasute page, linked in this article, discusses this. 2603:8000:D800:A1A9:CD3C:C37A:35B4:8D12 (talk) 23:04, 25 April 2021 (UTC)
- This is also mentioned in the ubasute article
According to folklore, the Aokigahara forest at the base of Mount Fuji was once one of such sites, where its reputation as a suicide site might have originated.

The name 青木ヶ原 in Japanese, although uses the kanji commonly associated with “blue” 青 is actually read as “green” in this instance. Therefore the name written in this article “blue tree meadow” is incorrect and should be “green tree meadow”. Ctlrjk (talk) 07:22, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
