Summary
DescriptionView from Ugab Terrace Lodge to the SSW.jpg |
English: View of the westernmost part of the “Ugab terraces” or their residual buttes/mesas and cliffs (far midground of picture, with the Vingerklip immediately left to the ridge in the foreground of the right half of the picture), respectively, north of the present-day river bed of the Ugab Rivier, NW Namibia. The terraces or buttes/mesas and cliffs, respectively, represent local Tertiary sediments of the “Paleo Ugab” which have been deposited upon Precambrian basement rocks (Damara sequence) but underwent erosion since the late Tertiary uplift of the region.[1] The mountain whose faint silhouette is projecting so conspicuously above the horizon in the background of the picture is the Okenyenya Berg, the highest peak of a circular mountain range consisting of various types of basic plutonic rocks of Early Cretaceous age.[2]
