English: A line in front of the Newlands Spring on Springs Way, Newlands, Cape Town during the Cape Town Water Crisis. Water collected from the springs is regarded as being of exceptionally high quality and people from across Cape Town have chosen to collect water from it for personal consumption for over a hundred years.
Photographs of people lining up at the springs in Newlands were published during media coverage of the water crisis creating a false impression that people were forced to line up for water due to water cuts. At the time of this photograph no water cuts had taken place in Cape Town due to the drought.
The photograph was taken prior to the Spring at Springs Way being sealed off by the municipality.
