Summary
DescriptionLismore flood levels to 2022.jpg |
English: Display of flood levels (shown in meters above AHD, to 2022) of the Wilsons River at Lismore, NSW, Australia in Lismore City Council signage as affixed to the outside of the Browns Creek Pumping Station, Lismore City Centre, August 2023 (Tony Rees photograph). Note, base of sign (approximately at pavement level) is already 9.5 meters above AHD (Australian Height Datum); normal river height (no flood conditions) is around 0.5 meters above AHD. Reported levels are from the Rowing Club Gauge, approx. 500 meters downstream of the Browns Creek Pumping Station. The sign portion of the image has been digitally "cleaned" to remove background graphic elements (simulated water droplets). Note, the Browns Creek Pumping Station is constructed to remove excess water from the City Centre (by pumping it into the river) while the Wilsons River is in flood but below the levee height, which is between 10.2 and 10.95 meters above AHD in different places. Once the river exceeds the levee height and can flood into the City, operation of the Pumping Station serves no purpose. |
