English: Kottakkal Kanaran Gurukkal, also known as Kottakkal Kanaran Chekavar, is regarded as the Dronacharya of Kalaripayattu. During the British ban on Kalaripayattu, Kottakkal Kanaran Gurukkal sold his entire property to raise money for traveling to distant parts to learn different kalari systems, with the aim of preserving them. He mastered 6 different kalari styles and taught these various techniques to his disciples in order to preserve them. |
