English: Master Charles F. Putnam, U.S.N. of USS Rodgers, who lost his life in the Arctic in 1882. Putnam River, Alaska, was named in his honor, as were DD-287 and DD-757. Copied from Vol. XXV, No. 3, Sept. 1899, "Proceedings of the United States Naval Institute."
