Summary

Description
English: These resilient women, tragically victimized by heinous acts of sexual violence in the town of Bunyakiri, have found solace and hope through the benevolent intervention of the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (SCIAF). Despite enduring the horrors of rape, they have been bestowed the empowering opportunity to embark on a path towards self-sufficiency by starting their own small businesses. I captured this poignant photograph on August 2, 2010, in the heart of Bunyakiri within the Kalehe Territory of South Kivu Province, these courageous women stand united with the compassionate team from SCIAF, a testament to the indomitable strength and solidarity that can emerge from even the darkest of circumstances.
