Русский: В картине воспроизведен момент, когда отправляющийся на подвиг Беллерофонт прощается с царем Иобатом. Герой по академической традиции представлен обнаженным. В его левой руке копье, поверх руки перекинут розовый плащ, голову и плечи осеняет белое крыло Пегаса. Чудный конь полон нетерпения и готовности к полету. За этой группой видна летящая богиня Афина – покровительница воина. Царевна Дилоноя, покрытая желтым покрывалом, горько переживает разлуку с любимым. Согласно академической традиции Иванов размещает фигуры в барельефном порядке. Движение в картине развивается слева направо.
Deutsch: Das Bild gibt den Zeitpunkt wieder, in dem Bellerophon vom König Iobates Abschied nimmt. In akademischer Tradition ist der Held nackt dargestellt. In seiner linken Hand hält er den Speer, über seine Schulter ist ein rosa Umhang gehängt. Darüber sieht man den Kopf und die weißen Flügel Pegasus'. Es ist ein wunderbares Pferd, voller Eifer und bereit zu fliegen. Hinter dem Pferd wird die Göttin Athena sichtbar - Schutzpatronin der Krieger. Prinzessin Dilonoya, links im Bild mit einem gelben Tuch bedeckt, bedauert die Trennung von geliebten Menschen. Die Bewegung im Bild entwickelt sich hier von der linken Seite zur rechten Seite (aus dem Russischen - mit Hilfe von Google Sprachtools und bearbeitet).
