Fernández (Spanish pronunciation: [feɾˈnandeθ] ) is a Spanish patronymic surname meaning "son of Fernando" of Germanic origin. The Germanic name Ferdinand that it derives from (Gothic: Frið-nanð) means "brave traveler."[1] The Portuguese version of this surname is Fernandes.
