The Queen of Akra is a Ghanaian drama film that tells the story of Naa Dode Akaabi, a powerful and influential queen in the Akra region of Ghana.[1] It was released on 6th March 2024 via the Showmax streaming platform.[2]

Plot

The Queen of Akra is a story set in a reimagined 1600s, where “Dode Akabi,[3] the estranged wayward daughter” of the Obutu king’s concubine, is faced familial rejection, betrayal, and death. Undeterred, she sets out to prove herself as a valiant princess worthy of an inheritance. Discovering her royal lineage and the latent powers it bestows, Dode embarks on a quest to reclaim her rightful place as the Queen of Akra, but she must confront ancient evils, forge alliances, and uncovers the secret of her heritage.[4]

The film was written by David Nii Armah and directed by William Agbeti.[5] It was released on 6th March 2024 on Akwaaba Magic and Showmax on the DSTV platform.

The film features Melissa Nortey from DWP, who played the role of Dode Akabi, Adjetey Anang as Kpakpo and Jasmine Baroudi, who played as Akra Queen.[6]
