2016–2022: Traineeship and Debut with Loona

edit

HyunJin was scouted by Polaris Entertainment after her appearance on Three Idiots and became a trainee in 2013. She later transferred to BlockBerry Creative (often shortened to BBC) to take part in the LOONA Project early 2016, and was eventually chosen as the second member of LOONA. HyunJin accompanied HeeJin during the latter’s trip to Paris for filming[6]

On October 23, 2016, the first “Who’s Next Girl?” teaser was posted by BlockBerry Creative, and HyunJin was fully revealed as the next member of Loona on October 28. She released her solo single album HyunJin on November 17, 2016 and debuted as a member of Loona.[7]

Hyunjin's single contains title track Around You, and dual-title track I'll Be There. Around you was released with its own music video, which was filmed in Tokyo, and also includes an 8 minute flim version. I'll Be There also has a music video, which introduces HyunJin and HeeJin together (in the 'Loonaverse'). This music video was filmed in Harajuku, Tokyo.[8]

Hyunjin passed the audition and became a contestant as a representative of BBC and Loona[10]. She made it to the final episode, but was eliminated and did not make the final lineup.[11][12]
