Before listing here, please check for dead links using checklinks or otherwise, and make sure all statements have good references. I'd appreciate it if those who haven't yet made article nominations to run in September, and are planning to do so, could do so as quickly as possible, as I'd like to finalize the list and begin scheduling next week. If the article is still pending promotion to FA, just let me know the situation on my talk. Of course, if a late nomination is made, we'll likely be able to squeeze it in, as we almost always do. Alexander McQueen

I get the feeling that we're running too many articles about Alexander McQueen collections so closely together (see September 18 The Girl Who Lived in the Tree, which has just been scheduled.) It's concerning to me. It's a lot like how we keep running Adele or Meghan Trainor articles too close to each other. I think maybe we should stop those for a while or at least spread them out further. Great Mercian (talk) 13:51, 28 July 2024 (UTC)

Coordinators did discuss that recently. There's a tension between rewarding work by giving it a day in the sun and the issue you mention. We're also constrained by what the community chooses to write about. We did resolve to spread things out a bit in certain cases. These things come and go. I'm just concerned because over the past 12 months I've been seeing a lot about McQueen in TFA and if not there then in the Did You Know section. I don't know if that's just me personally noticing his name a lot more but it is really concerning. Am I saying concerning too much? Great Mercian (talk) 14:08, 28 July 2024 (UTC)

I got your point on TFA, beyond that, I don't know because I don't follow DYK and other main page areas that closely. People write on what they care to, and in 17 years of involvement in TFA, I've repeatedly seen feast become famine once the subject matter or interest is exhausted. We have run SZA articles from the same album within three months (November 2023, February 2024), whereas the Adele appearances have mostly been spaced out by a year. Their mention seems odd and Great Mercian's personal problem. Reminds me of their poor arguments to stop her first TFA appearance even though no Adele article had appeared earlier. On the issue of McQueen, main page appearances are commensurate to the volume of FAs promoted so nothing "concering" there either. Maybe spend the time doing content work instead so topics you like can appear on the main page.--NØ 16:59, 28 July 2024 (UTC)

@MaranoFan: Sorry for taking so long to reply I've been busy and I've only really been able to make small edits here and there. Firstly it's most likely that as both [whatever you call them] used different pictures that I didn't initially notice them, whereas the Adele and Meghan Trainor articles used the same exact picture that is was almost insulting to the intelligence of not only editors but also the average reader, people aren't stupid, they're going to notice these similarities much quicker than you think they will. Secondly that "weak argument" that you so rudely define it as was a legitimate concern, and wouldn't you know it was an Adele article that used the same image of her smiling. I am concerned about the rapid influx of McQueen articles into the FA section, hysterical maybe but it's still concerning. A dog bite is still a bite even if it's bark is defeaning, and I'd rather avoid the hookworms in a dog's saliva than just ignore it. And as a final note to people like @SchroCat: and @Sawyer777: who say I should somehow just write featured articles: I don't possess the skills to do so. The best I've done is Timeline of the Russian invasion of Ukraine (12 November 2022 – 7 June 2023), and even then that was just transferring text from another article. I am just too busy to write such articles like that. Anyway I'm gonna stop there because you're legitimately making me mad. Next time don't just dismiss my thoughts so rudely. also, ok, i wasn't gonna add more to this but i still had this tab open and re-read everything. there is not a "rapid influx" of McQueen articles at TFA; PMC has been writing these for awhile now and they are excellent pieces of writing. your contempt for hers and others' work is frankly ridiculous and incredibly insulting to the amount of time and effort that goes into an FA - something you admit you "don't possess the skills to do". this is not constructive. ... sawyer * he/they * talk 08:26, 2 August 2024 (UTC)

You're right - your concern is hysterical, and it's laughable for you to complain that someone else is dismissing your thoughts when you're dismissing other peoples' work and the intelligence of our readers. I can only repeat that TFA schedulers can only put up what is available from a very small pot. There are no other fashion FAs being posted, and if we decide to only post one article per topic a year then we'll run out of anything to post in a couple of months. Just to flag up for you, Great Mercian, I'm currently scheduling for October, and I've got The Birds (Alexander McQueen collection) pencilled in to run. I do so both because of the limited pot, but also because it isn't a hookworm or whatever hyperbole you want to call it: it's a quality article that represents some of the best work Wikipedia has produced recently. I'm sorry if that somehow upsets you, but it's just not possible to please everyone all the time, and I'd rather post quality work that shows the variety over the course of a month than have some odd ban on showing fashion articles only once a year. - SchroCat (talk) 06:46, 2 August 2024 (UTC)

I pay so little attention to fashion that I didn't even notice they were all from the same fashion designer. Yeah, these should be treated like albums or songs from a particular musician - do one per year at most to balance them out to their overall historical importance. This seems very odd indeed. There are multiple music-related articles at FAC at any one time and multiple music FAs appearing at TFA every month. There is only one editor putting fashion articles through FAC. One fashion article per month is entirely acceptable, and considerably less than several other topics that appear. We have an insufficient number of new FAs to select from for TFA, which includes an ever diminishing pot of FAs that have never been on the main page. If you don't like the frequency of certain types of articles appearing at TFA, please - seriously please - write FAs on different topics that can be selected. We can always fill the gaps with MilHist articles, which is the most active project at creating FAs, but that leads to multiple complaints. With very limited alternatives, please feel free to write different FAs to be selected from. I second this as well. Once a year might be a decent proposal if there were a wide variety of topics to choose from, or if fashion/music topics made up less than 1/365 of all eligible TFAs. Sadly, there aren't a lot of TFA topics to choose from, and some topics are grossly underrepresented on the FA lists.

SC makes a good point—if you want something else to be TFA, you should go ahead and improve that topic to FA quality. Right now, it seems like people are "punching down" on the idea of fashion TFAs or music TFAs. If we restricted certain topics to once a year, we wouldn't have that many eligible TFAs for the other 364 days of the year. Epicgenius (talk) 03:10, 2 August 2024 (UTC)

Categories

Literally every month without fail, at some point during the month a run of Special:WantedCategories suddenly throws up a redlinked category of the "Wikipedia Today's featured article nominations from [Current Month and Year]" variety (e.g. Category:Wikipedia Today's featured article nominations from July 2024) which I end up having to create on your behalf, even though I'm not normally involved in this project, because of the rule around not leaving stuff in redlinked categories. So if such categories are routinely expected to exist, then would it be possible for this project to take steps to ensure that they get created either by a project member as soon as they're needed, or automatically by a bot at the beginning of the month, before they turn into work for other projects to clean up? Two nominations for the same day

Is it possible to put more than one nomination for the same say and let editors decide which one, if either, should be chosen? Or is it just whoever puts a nomination for a date first? I just ask because I added an article to the potential noms table for October 22 a few months ago (I know that doesn't guarantee the date). There haven't been any video game TFAs lately, so I figured that would be good. For now I just placed my nom in a non specific date. -- ZooBlazer 18:10, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

You can add another nomination for October 22. The decision is up to the coordinators (or, more practically, whoever is scheduling October, which is not me), though community input is a big part of that decision. But part of the decision is what else is getting scheduled, and whether we can accommodate both articles by running one a day before or after. That sort of thing. Potential double header for 6 April next year

G'day TFA coords. This year you ran Hrabri-class submarine on 5 April, the anniversary of their arrival in Yugoslavia in 1928. There was talk of trying to run the class article and the two sub articles (Yugoslav submarine Hrabri and Yugoslav submarine Nebojša) together then, but I understand it was too difficult. Would it be technically feasible to run the two sub articles together in one blurb on 5 April next year? If not, I might look at running them on different dates for different reasons.
