Fair use images of characters who don't look different from the actor "normally" is something that is already in a "grey area" (for some, not for others). That being said, whether there is a grey area or not, this image is clearly out of that area. In this picture we see the character Ana Lucia Cortez, but not even wearing something seen on the show or showing her character in a typical situation (the show is Lost (TV series), and characters hardly appear so "clean", etc). I keep replacing this picture on her character page with a screenshot image that better "captures" her character and at least attempts to make the image more than a run of the mill portrait (the image being Image:LOST208.jpg). I'm not sure if either quality for our fair use policy and guidelines, but this one clearly doesn't.-- Ned Scott 03:46, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- That was a promotional photo released by ABC for the character.
- The other photo only has her on the side, and she does not stand out, nor is she the focus of the image (which features other characters as well). --DrBat 18:24, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- Image:Anamich.jpg doesn't represent the character. If we need another image that's one thing, but this one clearly fails. -- Ned Scott 20:51, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- It's the image that's been used by most news organizations that have done articles on her character (ala this one).
- And apparently other users don't like you trying to replace it with that other one either. Have you noticed how everyone else keeps on reverting your edits? --DrBat 22:55, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- Popular opinion does not matter in this case (most editors do not seem to understand our fair use policy on images in the first place). Same goes for the image being used by other places, as "promotional" doesn't apply to us the same way it applies to news sources or places of media review. Again, a better image can be found in time, but the fact of the matter is that this image isn't acceptable. -- Ned Scott 02:22, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- I don't see why there is even an argument, as the screenshot Ned linked to above undoubtedly illustrates the character and provides far more information about the character (and the parent work of fiction) than the publicity still. Go with that in the character article, to illustrate the notable role of the actor in her article, and delete this one. Postdlf 18:03, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

- On image description page it says "Image released by author for wikipedia only for informational purposes." This implies to me that use is allowed only on Wikipedia and is not freely licensed. Also the image use policy states "user-created images may not be watermarked, distorted, have any credits in the image itself or anything else that would hamper their free use, unless, of course, the image is intended to demonstrate watermarking, distortion etc. and is used in the related article. All photo credit should be in a summary on the image description page."
- Not deleted. Uploader changed licensing to CC-BY and removed the "noncommercial" aspect. I then cropped out the watermark. howcheng {chat} 21:48, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
