Discussion
editApproved for trial (~20 full moves). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. If possible please a) have full season runs (e.g. don't move seasons 1-7 and leave 8-9 hanging), b) split the list between move-over-redirect and those whose targets don't exist yet (if this doesn't allow for hitting exactly 20 moves, that's okay, just get somewhere close + or - of that value). If it's possible, please find at least one page that has a talk page archive(s) to show that subpages can be properly moved as well. Let me know if I need to clarify anything. I'll grant the bot PGM for the duration of the trial. Primefac (talk) 12:31, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- If I may make a suggestion, I'd recommend the American Idol (season 1) through to American Idol (season 22) articles. a) It's a full set of 22 season articles; b) several of these articles already have redirects (1-2, 4-8, 11-13); c) several also have talk page archives (5-9, 11). -- Alex_21 TALK 20:19, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Make it so. Primefac (talk) 20:22, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Alex 21, just realised I forgot to ask: should redirects be left after moving? — Qwerfjkltalk 21:46, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm not Alex 21, but I think the answer is definitely yes to redirects. To suppress a redirect, the redirect needs to meet a CSD, and I don't see what CSD this would meet. Also the idea of moving thousands of pages without leaving redirects has the potential of causing massive disruption and redlinks. –Novem Linguae (talk) 23:00, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- I thought as much, just best to make sure beforehand. — Qwerfjkltalk 09:30, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Absolutely agreed. The current links will still be used in thousands of articles, and will be updated in a second passthrough. Thanks. -- Alex_21 TALK 10:07, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

- Primefac, Trial complete. See these 133 contributions (there were a lot of round-robin moves). — Qwerfjkltalk 10:07, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks to AWB redirect tagging, I got not move-over-redirect's, but oh well. — Qwerfjkltalk 10:13, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Can't win 'em all, I guess. I've got a pending question at BOTREQ and I'd like some more eyes, but my initial look seems mostly okay.
- Make sure you're doing your page swaps in the direction of the primary move to avoid moving the primary article to the Draft space (e.g. Special:Diff/1215824534 should have just been a direct move to American Idol season 8). Primefac (talk) 12:45, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Primefac, sure, I've updated my code to do it in that order. — Qwerfjkltalk 12:51, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- I've also updated my code to create redirects to the talk page and subpages if they have backlinks per WP:ROBIN. — Qwerfjkltalk 13:09, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- @Qwerfjkl will your bot also handle GA sub-pages like Talk:Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (season 1)/GA1? Gonnym (talk) 14:12, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Gonnym, if I've written my code correctly, yes. — Qwerfjkltalk 17:18, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Approved. I feel like a lot of the "next steps" will be in limbo until this step is complete, so it's probably better to get it done all in one shot rather than string it out too far. Primefac (talk) 07:30, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
