  Hello, I'm Jim1138. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to Container port because they seemed inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Talk on corrections / SeaRates.com

edit

Dear JzG

Wanted to ask regarding the blacklisting of the website https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/MediaWiki_talk:Spam-blacklist/archives/July_2015#searates.com

SeaRates.com plays a huge role in the shipping community, which is indicated by the large number of followers/registered users and high-quality information provided by the world's biggest shipping lines, carriers, ports, terminals and freight forwarders. I cannot see why this should be spam or anything else that would require Wikipedia to blacklist this website. The resource is informational and encyclopedia-based. After reviewing of several articles [1][2] it was mentioned that links to the website were added by bots or anyone else - not administration of the website (in ads purposes), in far 2015. Currently there are no articles on Wikipedia with any links to the website in order to promote it. The website itself is acknoledged and used by me and many colleagues of mine to represent similar resource for international shipping, as Booking.com - for hotels.

In other words, you’re still just here to promote your firm. Not interested, sorry. Guy (Help!) 06:47, 31 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
Guy Alreaday not, guaranteed in the last block below. Hope on your positive review Stefrogovskiy (talk) 08:12, 31 July 2018 (UTC)StefrogovskiyReply
Re-read what you wrote above. Your sincere commitment to your firm is not in doubt. Your commitment to Wikipedia's goals, not so much. Guy (Help!) 08:26, 31 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
Guy Right, but the date shows it was before my confession. I understand that any my concern regarding SeaRates will not lead to anything good. I already cancelled any intentions to write a word and touch this subject. I just wish not to be blocked at Wiki. Thanks Stefrogovskiy (talk) 08:33, 31 July 2018 (UTC)StefrogovskiyReply

Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Stefrogovskiy. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. General Ization Talk 14:28, 21 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for advertising or promotion. From your contributions, this seems to be your only purpose.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Guy (Help!) 21:50, 22 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

Never chased any advertisement/promo purposes Stefrogovskiy (talk) 22:10, 22 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Actually, you were only promoting SeaRates.com, and nothing else. If you want to be unblocked, please make new unblock request in which you should explain what kind of edits you intend to make once unblocked (see WP:GAB). Vanjagenije (talk) 20:50, 23 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

There is no proof for the purposes of I have been blocked; forgive me if I am wrong, but I feel like I have been blocked just because Wikipedia Admins have unlimited power. I have just created an account 2 days ago, requested several changes on definite articles and statuses about the informational resource which is widely used by me and many people around the world; and the reason "promotion seems to be your only purpose" sounds as a dictatorship without investigation. I have been here only 2 days, and yes, my first actions were directed on the definite resource, as I was confused it has been already in blacklist at Wikipedia. Now me too in the blacklist? What is the prejudice against this resource? Now I am blocked and cannot do any other contributions to entire Wikipedia? Is that fair? Stefrogovskiy (talk) 22:10, 22 July 2018 (UTC)StefrogovskiyReply

In fairness, I will point out that this editor desisted once informed of our policies during discussions with other editors (some of them properly initiated by the now blocked editor). I cannot say whether he would have continued to desist, but I'm not sure indef is justified in this case. General Ization Talk 22:38, 22 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
Pinging @Jim1138, who also interacted with this editor, for their opinion. General Ization Talk 22:40, 22 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
While Stefrogovskiy's edits have been attempts to link SeaRates.com, he did stop when the problem was explained. If Stefrogovskiy agrees to not promote or link to SeaRates, I would think , given his background, could make useful contributions to Wikipedia. Jim1138 (talk) 00:28, 23 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Jim1138: @General Ization: @JzG: Confirm to never promote or even hint at SeaRates,thanks Stefrogovskiy (talk) 07:30, 23 July 2018 (UTC)StefrogovskiyReply
  • Your edits to date encompass attempts to link to your company, and attempts to get the blacklist entry for its website removed. You have yet to do anything that indicates you are here to help us, rather than yourself. Guy (Help!) 22:57, 22 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
@General Ization: Thanks. Stefrogovskiy (talk) 23:09, 22 July 2018 (UTC)StefrogovskiyReply
@JzG: Yes, now I understand Wiki rules better, thanks. However, how can I do anything to help Wikipedia now while being blocked? Despite I disagree that I have promotion purposes here, I can promise to never do anything and say a word regarding SeaRates again, if I am that much suspected in advertisement. Please unblock me and let me prove to be an honest Wiki user to contribute to Global knowledge and support the community. Thanks Stefrogovskiy (talk) 23:07, 22 July 2018 (UTC)StefrogovskiyReply

Request reason:

Have intentions to make constructive contributions to Wikipedia on the following subjects: General transport knowledge, Handball (sport), Fiction movies, Comics and more in future. Stefrogovskiy (talk) 21:59, 23 July 2018 (UTC

Accept reason:

I believe that you got off to a bad start on Wikipedia and that your intentions are somewhat still somewhat questionable according to others. However, since your block, I see that you've put effort into understanding what you did and why it was against policy, and have promised that these edits and issues will not occur again. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and accept your unblock request with the condition that these behaviors will not occur again and that your focus will be towards building an encyclopedia. If any such issues like this occur again, you'll be re-blocked for an indefinite period of time and without warning. I really hope to see you grow and learn with us, and I'm always available to help you should you run into any questions or concerns. Please don't hesitate to message me if you do, and I'll be more than happy to help you. I wish you well, and I hope you'll stay with us and become a long-term and experienced editor here :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:36, 1 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

I explained more comments above, hope they were read. I don't have any advertisement purposes. Block me permanently if I break my promise. Hope to be unblocked... thanks. Stefrogovskiy (talk) 21:59, 23 July 2018 (UTC)StefrogovskiyReply

@JzG: Would you support unblocking? Vanjagenije (talk) 22:12, 23 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
@JzG: Could you respond to Vanjagenije, please? The disposition of this editor's unblock request is stalled pending your reply. General Ization Talk 18:45, 30 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
I'll wait for JzG to respond here with his input and his blessings, but I'm inclined to accept this user's request and support unblocking him per WP:ROPE and with the condition that if any of the concerns regarding promotion continue, that he'll be re-blocked without warning. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:20, 31 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Oshwah: I'm not sure why, because they're actively editing and have been consistently doing so during the past week, but apparently JzG has no interest in sharing an opinion. Can you proceed based on your own judgment? Thanks. General Ization Talk 22:11, 1 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
General Ization -   Done. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:40, 1 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Stefrogovskiy - Alright man, you're now unblocked. I wish you the best of luck and happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:40, 1 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
I belatedly see that JzG (whose signature identifies him as "Guy") had engaged the editor in the first block above as recently as yesterday, and was skeptical about unblocking him (though it would have been helpful had he expressed that opinion here when asked, more than a week ago). However, Oshwah, if my opinion means anything, I think you made the correct call on this. Stefrogovskiy, this should underscore that your editing here will be under some scrutiny until you have established yourself as a constructive editor. General Ization Talk 22:46, 1 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Dear JzG, Oshwah, General Ization, Vanjagenije, Jim1138, thank you gentlemen, appreciate! Will keep my words and contribute to Wiki for the best value. Stefrogovskiy (talk) 12:16, 3 August 2018 (UTC)StefrogovskiyReply
