Hello. I was planning on doing a POV check on the article but now it's under full protection. Ah well, I normally shy away from these contentious articles anyways, most of the time it's not worth the trouble. -Reconsider! 02:04, 6 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
haha it definitely is a lot of trouble. Hopefully it's all worth it in the end though! People need to know what's happening. Torontokid2006 (talk) 05:58, 6 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yeah I know. What do you think about the current state of the article? -Reconsider! 11:14, 6 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
I think it's quite good! I just think the millions of dollars in funding in climate denial is critical information that makes the entire picture of public/political action more clear. I find it interesting that certain editors hate the idea of mentioning this :/ Torontokid2006 (talk) 18:31, 6 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I'm not sure if that particular section is encyclopedic though. It could be perceived as POV pushing, given the tone of the section. -Reconsider! 01:51, 10 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm assuming that you're Bird1sky? Well I reverted because the figures in the 'Academics' section were altered even though it was already referenced. Verifiability is important. -Reconsider! 01:47, 10 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'm not Bird1sky. And I understand that verifiability is important. But isn't having up-to-date figures important too? I think the more proper thing would have been to google MCAS results and change the reference yourself, leaving Bird1sky a note about what you did. Reverting to outdated information doesn't help anyone. 173.48.43.197 (talk) 01:53, 10 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'd say that verifiability takes precedence. Note that the figures were changed but the reference which supported the 2005 data was not. But you're right, I should've notified the editor. -Reconsider!

Arnoud De Meyer and Peter Nolan etc

edit

I am a newbie. Thanks for your comments. I'm not sure why you think these subjects fail the professor test for academic notability. One criterion for notability is that 'the person holds or has held a named chair appointment or "Distinguished Professor" appointment at a major institution of higher education and research.' Well, both Peter Nolan and Arnoud De Meyer (and the other Chaired Professors I've listed on the Judge Business School page) hold full professorial chairs at Cambridge University. Unlike in the US, in the UK there is no distinction in terms of academic prestige between a named chair and a university chair. In the UK the distinction merely refers to the method of financing the appointment. A chair is a chair is a chair. Some Nobel Laureates at Cambridge hold University chairs whilst others hold named University chairs - the latter do not enjoy any special aura. There is also no special category called Distinguished Professor at Oxbridge or in the UK in general. In any case, Peter Nolan does have a named Cambridge University chair. And, Arnoud De Meyer holds a full University chair. Moreover, De Meyer is the Head of Cambridge University's Judge Business School. He Held a named chair at INSEAD before coming to Cambridge. Hope I've convinced you. Bradcam66 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bradcam66 (talkcontribs) 13:00, 31 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello Reconsider the static! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot notifying you on behalf of the the unreferenced biographies team that 1 of the articles that you created is currently tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 120 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. furthering validity

edit

hello Reconsider, I saw your note on my request for help with my first potential page (user page right now) http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/User:Darkmuse/Dark_muse You made some valid points regarding trying to make my project more valid, and I thank you for that since I had no idea what to look for. I did check out allmusic and freedb search sites for my project Dark Muse and they did uncover at least one of my official albums on each site (one had 4 of my cds posted, official and samplers). I guess it all depends on how important others find this information for validity? I thought by showing acts I had opened for in the past (acts that are tops within their own genre's) that might help too. I will continue to find more avenues of connection and attempt more validity hopefully from further discoveries and recollections and links. I was able to add a few extra links and information toward that goal just now. Thanks again for your time and links you gave for further investigation on my end. Any other comments or help would be appreciated. Take care. Darkmuse (talk) 10:08, 1 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

I've made a few changes in terms of the structure, referencing etc. The main issue here is the lack of reliable third party sources. Perhaps you could reference the magazines in which the artist is mentioned. There doesn't seem to be a lot of reliable sources on the net. -Reconsider! 13:32, 1 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
I agree, trying to find more third party sources for reference has been a little hit and miss for me. But I've just added a bunch just now for reference, for the compilations I am on, as well as adding another magazine. There is also another zine I may have been in, but want to search my studio for it first to make sure I have the proper info on it since it is a bigger magazine name, I only want to add it, if I feel my project mention in it was noteworthy. Luckily since you've helped me out a lot with structure and helping to edit what I had, it makes more sense, and added elements I did not know how to do. Thanks so much, please check out my additions when you get the chance. Hopefully I haven't mucked it up too much. Take care, Darkmuse (talk) 16:48, 1 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
also, do I need to add the External Links to the External Links section at the bottom of the page, If those same external links are also shown in the Reference section? thanks. Darkmuse (talk) 16:53, 1 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
In terms of the referencing, you should look for reviews and features which give a more in-depth look into the band, as opposed to commercial sites which simply list the album. With that said, I think that you've done a good job with the infobox and the referencing style. The article is looking a lot better now. As for the external links, it's generally for a place to list official links etc, but it's not really that important. -Reconsider! 13:35, 2 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hip hop music

edit

Well first of all, the current revision ('Turntablist techniques, such as scratching was pioneered by Grand Wizard Theodore') makes no grammatical sense.

And I thought it was better to say that Theodore invented scratching than pioneered it, because pioneering it means he was simply one of the first, whereas invented establishes that he was THE first. However people do not seem 100% sure about this (some credit Grandmaster Flash with inventing scratching), so that's why I wrote seemingly invented. The API article has undergone a number of edits since the COI banner was put up on May 2010. In its current state, the article seems to be neutral and reliably sourced. Do you have any other suggestions to ensure this article's tone or style meets Wiki's guidlines? Smallworldsocial (talk) 01:37, 6 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

My guess is that the COI tag will probably remain for an indefinite period. With that said, I applaud your honesty in regards to the disclosure of your vested interests and intentions. If you want to improve the article, you can take a look at WP:ASSESS. -Reconsider | speak 13:09, 6 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your feedback. Considering that the COI policy is in place to discourage editors to violate policies such as neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, why is it suitable to put it on this article? All the COI guidelines have been met and it is neutral with verifiable sources. I would just like to know your point of view to ensure the correct Wiki policy is displayed. Dear Reconsider the Static: You wrote, "I hope you like the place and decide to stay." I will not only stay at Wiki, I have found my calling. I will be a volunteer Wiki editor. I will delete the extraneous apostrophe in "it's", replace "I" with "me" in the phrase that begins, "between you and...", reformat footnotes. In a few years, I will drool in public. Since I will never leave my computer, that won't bother me. Furthermore, I love Wiki's editing style. I love italicizing with four apostrophes and bolding by adding two more. I even love signing my name, my date, and my precise time with four tildes. I have been waiting for Wiki all my life. I should call a rehab now, and save myself the pain. But then I would miss out on the joy. Tuttitalia (talk) 19:29, 3 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

To Reconsider the Static: I don't know who Tuttitalia is, nor why this person is jumping in with a topic unrelated to the article being discussed. Please do not take anything this person says as being in any way connected with me. Thank you, Janeway1701 Janeway1701 (talk) 01:58, 4 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

My Article

edit

I received from tips from a user to add links to my article but am not sure how to thank him. Can you take a look at http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Rob_Wolchek and see if it is completed correctly? Now that I understand the format, it should come a lot easier! Kmea (talk) 04:52, 5 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

It's not bad. I think you should expand on the biography by adding details of the early life and education. Right now, the article seems to place a lot of emphasis on the Chrysler news story.-Reconsider | speak 12:25, 5 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
I put more biographical info in as suggested. Take a look if you can. Thank you so much for your input. http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Rob_Wolchek -Kmea (talk) 04:50, 6 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Nice work, it's looking a lot better. I've added an infobox, if you know any specific details please fill in the blanks-Reconsider | speak 13:02, 6 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your help. I will try to find out answers for the info box. I appreciate the encouragement. I am hoping to make this a bit of a hobby. Kmea (talk) 04:03, 8 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

An update from adopt a user

edit

Hi there Reconsider the static! You may be wondering, what have I done to sound the alarm this time? Nothing. I'm messaging you in regards to the adopt-a-user program, which currently has a backlog of users wishing to be adopted. This doesn't make much sense, as we have a considerable list of users offer adoption, so there shouldn't be any backlog. I've begun to eliminate this backlog myself through a matching program, but I need your help to make it work. Of course, adoptees and adopters don't have to go through there, but I believe it helps eliminate the backlog because someone is actively matching pairs.

On the list of adopters, I have modified the middle column to say "Interests." It's easier working with other users that have similar interests, so if it's not too much to ask, could you add your interests in the middle column? For example, if I was interested in hurricanes, computers, business, and ... reptiles? I would place those in the middle column. Counter-vandalism and the like can also be included (maintenance should be used as the general term). The more interests, the better, since adoptees can learn more about you and choose the one they feel most comfortable working with. The information about when you're most active and other stuff can go into the "Notes" section to the right.

Finally, I've gone around and asked adoptees (and will in the future) to fill in a short survey so adopters can take the initiative and contact users they feel comfortable working with. We all know that most adoptees just place the adopt me template on their user page and leave it - so it's up to us to approach them and offer adoption. So, please take a look at the survey, adopt those that fit your interests, and maybe watchlist it so you can see the interests of adoptees and adopt one that fits your interests in the future.

Once again, thank you for participating in the adopt-a-user program! If you wish to respond to this post, please message me on my talk page.

Possible conflict of interest

edit

Hi there, I noticed you are helping Teojs and there maybe a possible conflict of interest in the articles he is editing. Google search on teo jen sen turns out that Mr John Teo Jen Sen is an IT manager working at DP Architects, see link [2]. Given the initials teojs and Mr John Teo's name, it is possible they are the same person.

While the articles he created are neutral so far, I thought it will be good if you can let him know about COI issues or maybe you have already done so. Thanks! --Xaiver0510 (talk) 05:44, 19 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

PS: we have a great AFC helper script at User:Timotheus Canens/afchelper4.js which helps in reviewing in just few edits easily!

We would greatly appreciate your help. Currently, only a small handful of users are reviewing articles. Any help, even if it's just 2 or 3 reviews, it would be extremely beneficial.

Adopt-a-user

edit

Hi Reconsider the static. I'm leaving you this message because you have previously been involved as an adopter with Wikipedia's Adopt-a-user program. A clean-up of this program is currently underway, and as part of the process I am trying to find out who is and isn't still interested in remaining an adopter.

If you would prefer not to be part of the adoption program anymore, you need do nothing; when the overhaul of the project is completed your name will be removed from the list of active adopters. However, if you have current adoptees, an active adoption school or an interest in adopting in the near future, then please let us know by signing here.

If you want to remain in the project and can currently take on more adoptees, there is a serious backlog at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user; it would be enormously helpful if you could take on one or two of the users there. Please do keep an eye on the project for upcoming changes, we could use your opinions and your help! Yunshui  09:17, 19 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
